Committed to Cornell University!
Quick Update for my son, we appealed to Peabody and received an updated award for an additional 10K and my son has decided that is going to be his home for the next 4 years. It is a great relief to have the decision behind us!
What ever happened with Berklee?? Did your son ever hear back from them?
They did respond and accepted him but their merit award was not close to the Peabody offer so we took them off the table pretty quickly
After receiving more merit and loving her visit, my daughter has chosen Oberlin! Congrats to all who are making their final decisions. So excited to be done!
Holy smoke, IU just almost doubled their award after appeal. It’s now the least expensive of the schools by quite a bit. Less even than UNT, which is in state for us.
I know we have already messaged, but if you need to have any more questions answered about Jacobs as you and your daughter make your final decision, feel free to reach out. Might also be able to get our daughters in touch with each other…
Thank you! I’ll ask DD if she would be interested in talking to an IU VP student. Your daughter is a freshman this year, correct? I think I remember you saying she was the only freshman in her studio and loved it. DD would probably be in the same situation, as the teacher she would be with only takes 1 freshman a year.
This definitely throws a wrench into things. She was pretty sure it was going to come down to Oberlin and Eastman, and I was expecting it to be Oberlin. But this new offer from IU makes it awfully attractive (at least to those of us who are paying the bills, LOL). She’s just still very worried that the program is so huge.
Yes. Definitely message me. My daughter is a freshman and loves it there. I actually think I remember you saying you are from Texas. My daughter’s very good mezzo friend is a current freshman in the studio you mentioned in your message a while back. She is from Dallas. Might be able to connect her with your daughter as well. I am camping this weekend and have bad reception. I will reply when I get home.
@Clara30 !!! Im so excited!!! Your kid is the 3rd Ive heard of, mine included, that got huge awards in late April from IU!!! So happy for your daughter and you!!! My son was committed to UNT, he asked IU to match UNTs COA and they did. It’s such a wonderful feeling. I didn’t realize to the extent how our musician kids are like recruited athletes within these music schools!
We used UNT’s COA, as well. They beat it by about $3k!
Welcome to Peabody! My daughter will be there in Fall as well.
have you decided?
My kiddo just got of the waitlist at Frost - it’s moving! Not sure if she will accept at this point.
Congrats! Our son can’t wait to start at Frost in the Fall.
I meant to let you know that if you have any questions about Oberlin or the conservatory (although my son is in a different program), I am happy to chat with you.
Feel free to DM me or ask on this chain!
S also off the Frost waitlist today… now waiting to hear about merit $$
Yes! My daughter has decided to go to Oberlin. We were waiting on answers to appeals until yesterday. Eastman didn’t offer any additional after a second appeal, but Oberlin did. Juilliard gave her an additional $10k, but it still didn’t put a big enough dent in tuition.
The one that was tough to turn down was IU, where they almost doubled her original offer and then added a bit more this morning. It would have been the least expensive by far. She loves the teacher there but ultimately decided that the smaller program at Oberlin is a better fit for her, but it was hard to turn that one down ![]()
But, we are all VERY happy to be done with the whole process. This has been a looooooong year, and it’s nice to finally have a plan for the future!
I’ll update the thread on Friday, after everyone hopefully has their decisions made. So, if anyone has a decision to report, please post it here or DM me ![]()
