Acceptance/Scholarships?

I know threads like this may be repetitive, but I would appreciate any responses you may be able to provide.

I will be a Senior in high school next year. My unweighted GPA is currently 3.9, and my weighyed GPA is 5.6 (It is on a 6-point scale in my district, but this is with the advanced classes as well as the requirements, such as standard PE and honors Spanish.) I will have taken 11 or 12 AP classes (depending on if AP biology conflicts with my schedule. If it does, I will be able to replace it with two classes because it is a two-period course.)

My extracurriculars are as follows:

-Band for 9th, 10th, and 12th grade
-Orchestra 11th grade (band conflicted with calculus)
-Science club member each year, president 11th grade
-National Honor Society
-Key Club for two years
-Class Secrectary for one year
-Class Treasurer for one year
-Sports every year except freshman year, for each season (9 total seasons)
-Outside of school, I have played in the Baltimore Ravens Marching Band for two years
-Hundreds of service hours

For SAT scores, they are not the best they could be right now with a 2060 (610R/800M/650W.) I had a migraine when taking this and before I get a migraine I sort of lose my vision and couldn’t really read the passages (see [Migraine - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia](Migraine - Wikipedia), signs and symptoms for info) so I will be retaking it during the first couple of months senior year, and based on practice exams expect ~2150.

For an essay, I was hoping about righting about marching band. I am just wondering if it will apply to one of the prompts as I do not know much of college essay as of now.

Thank You for your input, it is greatly appreciated.

And it double posted…

Your math score is awesome. Even with your reading score and the migranes, I don’t think you’d have a problem getting in. As for scholarships, I think you will get a small one with your current scores. MD doesn’t use writing and my son’s scores were 720 & 770. He got only 5,000 from Md. I think that if you can get the migraines under control (not that you have a choice!) and your reading goes even higher, you could get lots of scholarship money. Also, don’t forget about Senatorial scholarships, Delegate Scholarships, and MD Distinguished Scholars for staying in state.

You’ll definitely get in and most likely get into whatever Honors College you want. Scholarship-wise, Maryland is suppose to be very random about it, but I got $4,500/year for two years and my stats are very similar to yours. My friend (who was salutatorian and had a SAT score in the 2100s or low 2200s) got $5,000 for four years. Both of us are in-state.

Also, hate to break it to you, but ECs mean close to nothing for merit scholarships from UMCP.

Good Luck

You’re in. Also either Honors or Scholars, Try to get the SAT CR up for more $$. My son had a 1550 and got the Presidential for 8k. You can get another $1,000 or so from Delegates and Senatorial. Keep on the lookout for any organizations your parents might belog to along. Alsohave them check with their employers. Being a state resident, you really have a relatively small amount to pay. Piece together small scholarships to get you there. you might have to write a few essays, but you can do it. If you still need money after all is said and done, contact the department you will be majoring and let them know UMD is your first choice (if it is) and money is a factor. Ask if they have any scholarships you could apply for. In my experience, they will try to help.
Good luck.
