Acceptance Thread for Class of '28 Undergrad/'26 Grad Music Majors

I’ve heard that Vandy will be Wednesday, the day before Ivy Day. But then I heard a rumor that they could release tonight. I don’t know about the rumor, but traditionally they seem to release one day before the Ivies.

oh that is indeed good to hear! I will remain hopeful… thanks.

D20 (MM Voice) has not heard from Rice yet either. It was her first audition - January 19th - so it’s the longest wait of all of her auditions. I expect it this week sometime.

Can you elaborate on ‘negotiation phase’? Like negotiation of scholarships, etc.?

Buckle up, everyone! This week will provide many long-awaited answers for some of you, and perhaps finally begin shedding light on financials for others. Nothing we can do now but put our arms in the air and enjoy the rest of the ride!

Yes. I don’t know much about financial aid packages, but merit scholarship offers can be appealed. A candidate with similar offers from multiple relatively comparable schools can ask the schools for better offer.

Wow! That’s good to know. I had no idea. I thought whatever they offered was ‘take it or leave it.’ Thanks for the information.

FYI- My son just received scholarship offer from Jacobs SoM at Indiana a few minutes ago. It shows how much is music and how much is academic.

We are anxiously awaiting Michigan SMTD which comes out tomorrow.

He has not heard from Penn State (no longer interested).

Do you know if different departments do it differently or if it’s from the same office? I haven’t seen anything yet.

It is from music admissions. I assume they come out one studio at a time but I don’t know. I think I saw that someone else had received already. My son is Euphonium Performance major undergrad.

No merit from Jacobs yet but they did email to offer a free t-shirt! Hope there is more coming than that!!

We withdrew from PSU prior to the audition, not because of merit specifically but they did tell us that there probably wasn’t money for the studio. They are not known for giving merit unfortunately.

My daughter just got the same email. Maybe that’s how some music departments decide who gets the merit money–hahahaha!–if you ask for the t-shirt they know you are serious about coming and it will be a good allocation of funds–haha! Or reverse psychology, if you don’t ask for the t-shirt and they really want you, they know they need to throw the high merit at you. To take the shirt or not–that is the question!

Yes! He ordered it right away just in case it means anything! Too funny.

My son was excited about the free T-shirt too! He ordered it even though he doesn’t plan to go there.

A free t-shirt is a free t-shirt.  Who could say no!?

Any Bienen news?
