It says the acceptance rate for peabody conservatory is 52% on the web
52% is competitive.
Can you please add Peabody to the list of acceptances for us, email to check portal, includes studio assignment and link to financial aid page. Btw Eastman also included studio assignment but financial aid info is expected tomorrow. Thanks
@songbirdmama thank you- D and I were discussing that today as well. Particularly since the semester abroad is typically fall of junior year, it’s important that she is making preparations for recitals and performances. I think summer abroad programs will give her the experiences she is looking for.
In terms of acceptance rates, they vary greatly. At the BU virtual conference my D attended, they gave the numbers of applicants and accepted students, which means this year’s acceptance rate was 5%. That’s much lower than the usual 17%.
Accepted to Peabody Institute Congrats to the other Peabody proud parents!!
@coluraturagirl. Awesome problem to have! Congrats!!! That’s a tough one… Good luck!!!
Juilliard just in, accepted for MM violin !
@Trom2020 Check your email. My daughter just found out that she got into Juilliard today!!!
For juilliard: email to check portal.
Also, there was no information about yale admission this year. For record, my acceptance for MM violin at yale school of music was sent on March 19th, email to check portal.
Congratulations on these impressive acceptances ???
@coloraturagirl I am assuming your daughter got into BU’s School of Music, which as you know (but I wanted to clarify for others) has a different acceptance rate than the university itself.
The two experiences- BU and Tufts- couldn’t be more different. I don’t need to spell them out, I’m sure. Have you visited both?
I would think twice about trying to fit the BA and BM into 4 years, honestly. Maybe the financial savings would be worth it but it sounds stressful to me!
Have you been told the cost of the NEC portion of the double degree? Ten years ago it was $5k/year until the last year of the degree, at Harvard, but I don’t know what it is now at Tufts.
Tufts has a wonderful music department, by the way. Is it possible to study at Tufts and take lessons privately, perform in extracurriculars? Then do grad work?I always ask. Or decide on the double degree later?
Just playing devil’s advocate. How does the double degree benefit her?
So she could do BM at BU, or BA at Tufts, or double degree- lots of choices. Sympathies!
@arkham can you pm me? I can’t PM yet.
Juilliard, Peabody and NYU on the board!! Happy dancing for all of you!! ?
Re Peabody acceptance, that 52 percent seems to be from some random “college prep” site. Peabody says the percentage differs from year to year and studio to studio, but is certainly very competitive! Remember that only top musicians even apply, and many are eliminated at prescreens. Acceptance, and merit aid, is a great accomplishment.
It’s a very exciting day!!! Congratulations!!!
@compmom thanks for the comments! All good questions you ask. Unlike the NEC/Harvard dual degree, there is no additional charge to do a dual degree through Tufts. They handle all finances for the program, so the offer we received today is our cost. She will enter the program with anywhere from 20-26 credits already because of her AP test scores. The final amount depends on whether Tufts accepts her Tanglewood credits. So it’s entirely feasible to do it in 4 or 4.5 years based on that. I managed to graduate a year early from NYU (no summers) just because of my AP and college credits. I think one semester I took an extra class.
We have been to both schools, and there is the factor of city environment versus college campus. Transportation and time is a factor since she must travel between campuses. The dual degree is certainly not necessary for her to become a professional singer, but she is highly academic as well and this program allows her to cast a wider net into the world of academia as well as music. I’m a believer in education for education’s sake, and feel that she would gain a broader experience if she chose to do the dual degree. That said, she can take classes in whatever she pleases through BU as well. She does want performance opportunities, though, which is why she would not do music solely at Tufts. She wants true classical training and stage time that will give her experience and competition with others at her skill level. She will go on to MM and possibly DMA in the future.
The acceptance rate to the general university is much lower than in previous years, which is why I mentioned it. Music schools of course have different statistics, but my point was only that these rates are not static. No one should feel less than gifted based on a percentage.
Just a reminder: The Journey thread is a good place to agonize over your wonderful choices (hee hee–this was me last year) without making it difficult to find the acceptance lists. So head on over to: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/music-major/2135909-class-of-2024-undergrad-class-of-2022-grad-the-tours-the-auditions-the-journey.html#latest
See you there!
I’m wondering if anyone has thoughts about what to do if you are waitlisted, for example at Juilliard. Is it helpful to reach out at this point or…?
Just got accepted to NYU for Classical Voice!!! That’s a wrap everyone, congratulations on everyone’s super impressive acceptances. Now comes the tough decisions…
@composermom , @Elegie17 – let’s bring that discussion over to http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/music-major/2135909-class-of-2024-undergrad-class-of-2022-grad-the-tours-the-auditions-the-journey.html#latest
@composermom Yes, if continued interest your S or D should reach out (to admissions and faculty). In my opinion. We are doing this at Vanderbilt and the communication back from the faculty has been very positive.
