Hi. So I recently found out I was accepted ED to Emory University full ride. I know this question is overdone but now that it has actually hit me I realize I will be moving from the southern tip of Florida to northern Georgia. How do people deal with this transition? I just want to be ready.

You get a full ride just go with the flow

Often colleges will have an accepted students day. Go to that so you get used to the campus.
Then you will have student orientation…there you will meet other new students.
Colleges know they are getting students who are in the same boat as you…that is why they have programs for it!

College is a lot of change for many, don’t worry. It’s also over six months away, plenty of time. You’ll be fine. I suspect the commitment of ED is hitting you but as long as you love the school based on decent research / visiting you will do great.

Congratulations! That is awesome. Students at Emory come from all over. Chances are, there will be other students that are also from your area too, which might help with getting rides. However, flights from Atlanta may be reasonable too.

Since students come from all over to Emory, many won’t know anyone else. Most everyone will be looking to make new friends.

Being aprehensive about starting something new is normal- but chances are you will do just fine. For students who have difficulty with transitioning, all colleges have student counseling- and they are likely to be experienced with homesickness and other issues. Ask for help if you need it.

I went from the midwest to the northeast for college. I expected less of a “culture shock” than I was expecting. At a school like Emory, there will be students from all over the country. And in my experience, everyone is really open to making new friends as freshmen and it won’t be difficult to find a group where you fit in. Congrats on getting a great scholarship at a great school. Now you can relax since you don’t have to worry about any more college applications!
