I was accepted to UW in march 2011 but I decided to go out of state. I have been thinking of coming back and I would be able to get in state tuition (since out of state tuition at other school is 30,000 and killing me). I had a 3.65 gpa when i was accepted and i currently have a 2.5 at my current university. since i was accepted would i be able to go back with out reapplying (as in does uw have a period where you have 12 months or so to take your acceptance with an updated transcript) or would i have to reapply again. Also, if i would have to reapply would my odds of getting back in be good and would the university hold it against me that i turned it down?
Also, the reason why the current gpa is so low as i was majoring in engineering at my current school but it was too hard so i switched to philosophy and am perusing law. my first semester grades were horrible but my second were brilliant A’S AND B+. Also, when I got into UW i got into the engineering program so would my current switch of majors look good or bad?
Also, should I possibly wait another semester or year to apply again?

hey, would you mind posting a link to where that you read that you don’t need to reapply?

As far as I’m aware, once you’ve said “no” you have to reapply. And if you have taken classes elsewhere, you need to apply as a transfer student.

Examples:
If you were admitted, but withdrawl (meaning you had at one time accepted the offer) -
:Withdrawal by Newly Admitted Students
Withdrawal from any quarter prior to the first day of the quarter for a newly admitted student invalidates your status as a continuing student. You must submit a new admission application by the published closing date for each quarter depending on your admission type (freshman, transfer, postbaccalaureate, graduate, international). Review the Registration Eligibility section of the Time Schedule if you are withdrawing before the first course day of the quarter.
([Withdrawal, Quarter-Off, and On-Leave Policies](Withdrawal, Quarter-Off, and On-Leave Policies - Office of the University Registrar))

Also, lets say you were offered admission…said YES but wanted to defer:

4 You may not defer your admission to another entry term. The offer of admission is valid only for this quarter.

If you are unable to attend the UW at this time but wish to enroll for a future quarter, you will need to file a new application and meet all requirements and deadlines. More information about reapplying is available on the Admissions website.
([May I Defer Admission? | Admissions | University of Washington](http://admit.washington.edu/drupal/Welcome/Transfer/Conditions/Defer))

So from what I know, even if you said “yes” but didn’t immediately start attending…you’d have to reapply. To actually say “no” and go somewhere else…logically it would follow the same course. And since you’ve taken college classes you’d have to apply as a transfer student now.

please let me know where you got your info, I’m honestly curious to see it. thanks!

@travelgirl: I don’t see a place in his post where he says that he doesn’t need to reapply. His post is asking whether or not he has to. All of your information is correct; he will have to reapply.

goingthroughlife: “since i was accepted would i be able to go back with out reapplying (as in does uw have a period where you have 12 months or so to take your acceptance with an updated transcript) or …”

I read that 4 times before I posted and totally misread that! I see now that s/he was asking. well either way at least I was able to answer the question!
