Accepted to CSE!
Received in portal yesterday (10/17) @5pm
WI reciprocity
ACT 34, UW 3.92

My son received this as well. I too wonder the same, i.e. is this being sent to a select group of candidates…

@ chardonMN & NDFather…
My D said she received that email too. She was accepted into CSE yesterday.

Wisconsin converts unite! My son isn’t even waiting to hear back from Madison. UMN was his top choice and he put the enrollment fee down right away lol

Congrats to your son mamadtb, on his acceptance and a quick decision! It must be so relieving to put all of this behind so early in the game. He can truly enjoy the rest of senior year. ?
We haven’t toured UMN yet. We will likely wait for other decisions before we go.

I received the email after I got accepted to school of nursing yesterday 10/17

Everyone receives this. No worries!!

My daughter was accepted and she received it too.

Does anyone know if UMN has admitted student days? I’m not seeing anything on the website. We need to do at least one more visit before deciding and thought one of those would be a better option than just another normal visit.

Ok, disregard that question. Either I’m losing my mind or they just added them because the calendar is full of admitted student days now.

I see the admitted student info sessions on the calendar, too, but I’m trying to decide if it’s worth another trip after having visited a few times already.

If they were longer visits with more programming for the admitted students, I’d be more inclined to schedule one, but right now I’m just thinking about dealing with parking and then walking in the cold for potentially just 45 minutes of information we could find online. Maybe I’m just tired of visits in general, or annoyed at the snowy weather.

Maybe we’ll just go walk around on our own and see if we can buy lunch in Pioneer. Food for my pescatarian S20 is my main concern at this point (since we already know it’s a great academic fit). Then pay the deposit and get ready to sign up for orientation when that opens in a few months.

We spent a whole weekend wandering campus a couple of weeks ago. It was great for all of us (son, husband, me) to get a good feel for the campus. My husband and I went to a Vikings game while our son kept wandering on his own and visited a couple libraries to do his school work in. It was a really nice weekend. We stayed at The Graduate and everything was very accessible.
For your son being pescatarian, maybe the dining hall at 17th might have some good options? I heard that they have a good selection of fresher, more healthy foods.

We’ve only visited once and it was a little underwhelming (went during MEA break when everyone else did too).

They really don’t have anything special on the admitted student day, that’s for sure. Just an hour of “what to do next” and another tour. I think we would put special requests in and make it an all day affair. DS wants to see the engineering labs and maybe sit in on a class and talk to someone one on one from the aerospace department.

He’s still trying to decide between UMN and Iowa State…and probably will be for quite a while yet.

@mamadtb that sounds like a great way to let your son get a feel for the campus! I agree about 17th, we might have to check out the food there, too. Pio was just remodeled so I haven’t been inside either one.

@cshell2 good plan. We already did that other stuff so I’m thinking it’s not as worth another official visit for us. I hope you guys’s next visit goes better.

I noticed Iowa State has some admitted student days but they look very similar to the “Experience Iowa State” days so we may not go back there either.

We now have a third (smaller) school under consideration, which incidentally has overnights for their admitted students. But I think UMN is going to be the final decision.

@myrna97 - Pioneer Hall is super nice. I’m sure they took us into one of the biggest dorms, but we had 15-20 people from our tour in there and we weren’t squished in like sardines.

I saw the Iowa State one looks pretty similar to what we already did. They did such a good time the first time through with the Experience Iowa State that I do feel think we got a good feel for that campus. Maybe I’ll ask his dad if he wants to take him. We’re divorced and he didn’t come with on any of the other tours, but he says he’d like to see the campuses.

Can i get in with 3.5 gpa and 1500 sat?

@Michaelhimself – Your stats are almost exactly the same as my son’s (he has 1510 SAT and 3.5 UW GPA / 4.7 weighted GPA). He applied on 10/17 to the CSE (Chemistry major) and has heard absolutely nothing. Hopefully you have better luck with a quick response!
