@Michaelhimself - There are so many variables. Some colleges at UMN are a lot harder to get into than others and whether you’re in-state or out of state is a big factor too.
@cshell2 Is it easier to get in if you’re in-state or out of state?
@caramelapple12 - In-state. Most public universities are required to fill a quota of spots for residents since they’re funded by the state. UMN historically has kept to about 70% in-state. Then another 10-15% from the reciprocity states (mainly WI)…so about 15-20% OOS.
While I haven’t seen a breakdown of the stats of in-state vs. out of state, I think it’s a pretty strong bet that they set the bar higher for that group as they’re competing for less seats.
Anyone get accepted into the CSE computer science program? I know a few people who got accepted in CS a week or two ago, but they applied for CLA. I’m still waiting and applied in September…
Does anyone know of anyone being accepted to CLA as a foreign language or linguistics major? My son applied in September, and I’m surprised he hasn’t heard back. I assume different colleges/majors do things differently, but this waiting is not easy!
Hi! I applied back in early October and am still waiting for an admission decision… I have a 3.95 GPA (unweighted), I ended up getting a 25 on my ACT (kept getting inconsistent scores such as a 30 on my English one time and the next a 31 in reading), but have a ton of work experience with as an independent worker and as a disabled caretaker, leadership experience, a merit in leadership skills, and oodles of volunteer work… I applied to CSOM and CLA. I’m also in-state and have done post-secondary for junior and senior year with a focus in business… I’m starting to lose hope. Has anyone else been accepted? Thanks!!
Hi guys! I am an international student who applied on Oct 31 but still hasn’t got my result. I applied to CSOM and have an SAT score of 1390. I don’t have a GPA because I am an international student and I have solid ECAs. Do you think I will be able to get in? Btw, how much is tuition fee for UMN now? Heard it went up by a lot…
@kevinwonggg their website would be your best bet for finding specific information for costs such as tuition, instead of just asking people on here. No one here knows the exact amount off the top of their head.

We have not visited the campus, depending on merit amount (if any) it might be a contender, though snow and cold might be a deterrent.
