Accepted Drama BA Ithaca vs. UMass Amherst

Hello :)

I have narrowed down my accepted college selection to my final two choices, being Ithaca and UMass Amherst. And I’m honestly very torn. I have been accepted as a Drama BA at both and intend to focus mainly on dramaturgy and playwriting (though I still want to gain skill in acting, stage-managing, and technical jobs.)

I have visited both schools and am very impressed by both of their departments. I recently saw “Scarcity” at UMass and was blown away by the effort and skill put in on all accounts. Needless to say I was almost frustrated when I realized that Ithaca wasn’t the obvious choice I had thought it was only a day before. I haven’t been fortunate enough to see an Ithaca performance, but I think that the quality is amazing goes without saying.

–UMass has more to offer as far as dramaturgy goes.
But Ithaca’s alumni job placement and internships are too impressive to be overlooked.
–At UMass there is the 5 College system (Including Amherst and Smith)
Ithaca allows you to take classes at Cornell.
–UMass has 20,000 undergrads.
Ithaca has 6,000 (So they are way too different in size to compare)
–Accepted to Commonwealth College at UMass
(I intend to try my luck to get into Ithaca’s honors college either this year or after my first semester)

There are so many other factors to consider, and as far as money- I’m receiving very good amounts of aid from both schools. And the students and faculty at both schools were more than welcoming and friendly.

I would love to have input from the forum  Thank you!

first of all, congratulations! i can only speak for Ithaca and, as you know, it takes it’s theatre very seriously. what i like about the school is the excellence within the music department, the Park School of Communication, and the theater department which creates a wonderful critical mass of students who truly deliver! add that with the town of Ithaca, Cornell, the Hanger Theater, and it’s a lovely place. . . good luck, i’m sure you’ll thrive at either school!

Thank you so much, morandi  Those are definitely all positives which are making my decision very tough.
