I was accepted SCEA to Harvard with a 4.0 UW. I’m not applying anywhere else RD. What is the lowest GPA that I can have for this coming semester. Of course I don’t intend to drop it that low, but I would like to know where the floor is. Thanks.

Straight Bs would make me concerned about your ability to do well in college, if the only thing pushing you to get good grades was a prestigious college acceptance, but you’re not going to get in any formal trouble unless half your grades are Cs or worse.

I would maintain mostly B’s and a few A’s to be on the safe side. But C’s prolly won’t get you in trouble.

(Yeah, the “half Cs might get you in trouble” is me being conservative. I’m certain everything above that is fine. I doubt the line is as high as all that, but I don’t know where it actually falls.)

To be on the safe side, B’s and up.
C’s are pushing it, and I don’t think you want to gamble with something like this.

Exultationsy, how do you know all Bs are good for certain?

Because a handful–like maybe five or less–of the top athletic prospects in a year will be accepted with near-straight Bs, and they’re not going to rescind your application for something that’s acceptable for another member of your class. Also, plenty of students are accepted with a B, so I don’t think a bunch of them counts as “oh my god we are worried about this person failing out of school;” maybe Cs/definitely Ds do, but not Bs.

But why do athletes have to be held to the same standards? They obviously got in for their athletics and others primarily for their academics. Also do you know how I could find out for sure?

No, I don’t know how you know for sure, but you would get a lot of sympathy press if you were rescinded for straight Bs. Ergo, they won’t do it.

The common consensus on CC is what exultationsy said: “Bs are completely fine, but you should be worried if you’re getting Cs. Nobody has ever reported being rescinded for Bs, though you may get an admonishing/warning letter.” Etc.

I’m not sure how much help this is, but I know someone who got into MIT early, got something like 3 C’s second semester, and nothing happened.

I wouldn’t risk it, though. Just shoot for B’s.

Congrats, by the way! :)
