Accepted!!!!!!! Fall 2011 :)

Yeah, I emailed them a couple of weeks after my first semester transcript was sent out, and they guaranteed me it was. Is there anything else they need that I’m not aware of? I haven’t sent my Dual Enrollment transcripts yet, but they said they didn’t need those, and they’re missing some of my AP scores, but they said that they’d ask for the full list after a decision had been made.

Well, they FINALLY updated my admission status on the myUCF Portal, and I’ve been offered admission for Fall 2011!!!

However, when I went to register for orientation, it kept telling my my UCF PID/First Name/Last Name was invalid… Well I know my PID was right, because obviously I was able to log on to the Portal. And I’m pretty sure I know my first and last name…

So now I have another thing to deal with. Has anyone else had problems registering for orientation?

@embemily
I had the same problem. I had to wait a couple of days after i paid the 250 dollar tuition fee in order to sign up.

Interesting! Hopefully they spelled your name correctly! I have a slightly complicated last name, and it’s happened to me before (given it was at an average hotel, not a state college!)

Thanks for the help, @FutureMD11! It ended up allowing me to register the following day. So as long as we’re registered for orientation…it means we’re set to attend the university, right? I’m confused…I’m a transfer student and this all seems too easy. I feel like there needs to be paperwork or something! haha.

Im an New York native hoping to go to ucf but i think i have less of q chance to get in bcause im so far away and my grades arent as high as the others ive seen in this forum

Waitlisted . YAY!

FutureMD & ericiidx-- what are your stats? I’m applying over the summer :)

Any Out of State transfers accepted yet?
I’m curious on the stats of transfers being accepted?

I got into MIT and Caltech but opted to go to UCF for a big scholarship
SAT-2180 (780 Math, 740 CR, 660 W)
4.0 UW
5.28 W
Majoring in Physics and aerospace engineering

Flaco - How can you get above a 5.0 weighted? the scale only weights a Maximum of 1 point, so the max should be 5.0, if every single class is weighted?

You know what really bugs me? People who apply to UCF with outstanding scores exceeding UCF’s expectations, but have no real intentions of going there. It makes all us ‘average’ kids seem unworthy of acceptance and closes admission spots for kids who may have average stats but would LOVE to go there. I was in class today and some girl said she applied there but barely knows anything about it and doesn’t even want to go there. Just thought I’d vent here because I know we all share a love for UCF and I know it is the perfect school for me. By the way, this isn’t directed at anyone on this thread :)

@ Ari, I have over a 5.0 weighted lol.

I agree. It also p i s s e s me off when I hear about people that applied in freaking March (granted, with good stats) that get in a couple weeks later. Like ***. UCF obviously (most likely) was an afterthought for them. I mean I know it’s not their fault that I’m an idiot and don’t have good test scores but I don’t think its fair for them to accept a lot of people that apply WAY late in the game while they keep a lot of people waiting for over six months. The longer they make us wait the less chance we have of getting in. They could’ve just told us no to begin with.

:P How is it possible Mayday? I know that the UCF Gpa can’t possibly be, because they only wieght up to a 5.0, but I guess your high school’s could be if they weighted to a 6.0?

I have no clue lol but I kindof wish my school didn’t have the weighting system we have because it just makes my GPA look SUPER inflated becuase of my test scores when I worked REALLY hard for it. I somehow feel that if my GPA was like a 3.6 or 3.8 I would have gotten in just becuase it seems more realistic.

Normally, If you have 5.0+ GPAs and average SAT/ACT score (SAT 1500/2400 ACT 20-22), UCF will delay your admission notification because it seems unrealistic. Your test scores and GPA should correlate at least in one way or another.

UCF’s recalculated GPA can’t be over 5.0. They only weight classes from 4.0 up one point to a maximum 5.0

Mayday,

UCF, like all the universities in FL, re-calculate your GPA. They kick out all of your non-core courses, i.e. P.E., art, fine arts, etc, and only use the core: math, science, history, english, AP/IB dual enrollment, language. I think I got them all in …

Anyway, after they do that, they use the following scale: everything based off of 4.0, i.e. A=4, b=3, c=2 … etc. However, for every honors course you get a .5 bump/class, and every AP class you get a 1.0 bump. So, even if your school did it differently than that, UCF recalculates. So, you are not going to have higher inflated numbers compared to other schools. Now, your gpa and standardized test scores won’t look so far apart. The problem is if your test scores are too low for what they want, no matter your gpa, you’ll be held for further consideration. I don’t know if they will accept it, but I know there’s something called an LOCI (letter of continued interest). Perhaps you might try writing one of those to undergrad admissions and reaffirm how much you really want to go to UCF and stress anything that shows a committed disciplined approach to education. Couldn’t hurt, right? Good luck!

The problem is that every student needs to apply to 1 or 2 safeties. With admissions difficult at every university, a student might really want to get into UNC, for example. That’s their dream school, but being that UNC only accepts less than 10 percent out of state, even students with exceptional stats from FL are getting shot down. So these students have to have a “back-up” plan. And, for them, it might be UCF. Or, if they get into UNC (per above example), but they have to have merit aid/financial aid to attend, no matter if they love the school or not, a parent will say …“uh, huh … you can’t go.” Again, then the back-up school is needed. But it does start a domino affect … that’s for sure and some people get stuck on waitlist for a long time. All students who have been offered admission have to pick a school by May 1st, at least I think that’s still the date. So, students holding multiple offers will have to choose one, and then that opens up slots all over the place as things shift. If UCF is your first choice, hang in there. But … you should probably have a back-up plan, too, either another university that you’ve applied to and gotten into or a community college that you can get your AA and then transfer later. Good luck!

zebes, whose son graduates from UCF in a few weeks … :)
