Accepted for 2nd choice, can I appeal?

I really want Whitman, but was accepted for Econ. I applied ED. My stats are median with 25 ACT, 3.2 GPA (3.75 Jr year), Varsity Lacrosse, several AP courses, Young Life, Eagle Scout, 700 commmunity service hours, from the midwest and I made two visits to campus, but did not have an interview.
Can I ask them to reconsider my acceptance to Whitman?

You can always appeal - but it would be better to do so if you had some achievement to report - like high mid semester grades or some award. If not, you can transfer in with good grades- last year, the freshmen needed 3.4 gpa to transfer. Pick your courses carefully so you do well because they only care about the gpa, not the rigor of the courses.

Decided the end of January to appeal based on 3.9 GPA 1st semester, A in my college level accounting class, State qualifier for the BPA Accounting competition and a recommendation from a Whitman faculty member. After sending my information 3 times, I now have confirmation that my appeal is being considered and I will know in 3 to 4 weeks. so I am still waiting.

Did you pick Econ as a second choice, or did they just put you in it?

I listed Econ as a second choice, but after getting accepted to MSU and invited to be in the Business school learning community there, being in Whitman was a deciding factor in selecting SU. Happy to report that my appeal was accepted and I am a member of the Freshman class for next fall in Whitman!!

^^Congrats, madoug!!..good to know this is an option for students!!!
