I would, but I don’t want this hanging over my head for the next four months I’m planning on forgetting about colleges for a while. Maybe a week before decisions come, but not now.

i noticed you got an 800 on chinese SAT II. can I ask if you are a native speaker? and if not, how many years of chinese did you take and what textbooks did you use?

my son is self-studying mandarin (with a private tutor) and we are not sure how far or what he needs to do in order to score well on the SAT II test.

oh, I meant this for RDbut I guess its a bit early :P

And to hsmom: I am a native chinese …I would definately not recommend studying this solely for the SAT. if your son is really interested in the language, it would take ALOT of dedication to learn the language. The grammar part is very biased towards those who have spoken the language at home since childhood. The test is a breeze for native speakers and a nightmare for others.

thanks for the reply – I have heard that the exam is very, very difficult.

my son is truly interested in the language and has taken classes now for two years (now on his third year – he is a freshman). It is not offered at any school in the area, so we have hired a native speaker to work with him along with a college chinese text book.

I was just wondering if he should even bother taking the SAT II chinese test (I am assuming the AP test will be even more difficult).

He is definitely looking to go abroad for a semester to china in high school and again in college – and he knows that this is a difficult language to learn!

i think its worth noting that if your son does do well on that test, (I’m assuming you are not asian/don’t have an asian sounding name) that will be a huge boost for him because colleges know what the curve on that test is like.
