Hey this wasnt my dream school and i didnt think i was gonna go if i was accepted, but can anyone tell me acceptance rate for out of state students? I was kind of surprised i got rejected.

Any if anyone cares
About a 3.9 GPA weighted
2010 SAT
31 ACT

I got in with what I think sub-standard grades. I’m in for Computer Science and Engineering in Sixth College with a good financial aid.

UC Gpa (Soph + Junior): 3.57 (3.8 both semesters Junior year)
No APs until Senior Year.
SAT I: 1820
SAT II: 640 Math II, 570 Physics, 620 US History

First Team All City RB/DB Football, President of Students Against Alcohol And Drug Abuse (It was a joke club but nevertheless a real club… I’m not really against it), few other clubs, lots of summer jobs…

I feel fortunate to get in. But hey, the UCs work in a weird way.

Rejected
Major: undeclared
1790 SATI
740 Math lvl2 , 680 World History
3.5Weighted GPA ( one 3.5GPA, and one 4.0GPA in junior year)
5 APs total(including senior year)
took Statistics (math 85) in local community college

EC
member of Dragonboat team for 3 years
key club members for 2 years
school community club for 3 years with 150+ hour
Cross Country member with 2 awards
one year of job experience at a museum during freshman year

i suspect that it was my low GPA( i screwed up sophomore year), and a mediocre Personal Statement or Undeclared major got me rejected

this was my first rejection from a UC, my first choice since sophomore year…then Calpoly rejected me(my friend said: a state school rejected you? you suck! ._.) and i am immune toward rejection afterward

ACCEPTED!

hey! i got accepted as a communications major to thurgood marshall college! and i’m pretty sure i am going to be attending UCSD unless Cal miraculously accepts me too. but i really doubt they will and quite frankly, i think UCSD is more my kinda school.

my stats are not so great and i am surprised they accepted me.

GPA: 3.43 unweighted, 3.56 weighted (hard to believe but an upward trend in grades since freshman year)

ACT: 28

APs: junior year- AP Bio (4) and AP US History (3)
senior year- AP Gov, AP English, AP Stats

ECs: Editor-in-Chief of school newspaper, 1 of 2 students in our whole graduating class to direct a school play, orchestra section leader for 3 years, cultural exchange club VP

Out of school: part-time job (movie theater) for 2 years with 1 promotion within 6 months, senior girl scout, lots of community service

Background: first person in the family to go to college, immigrant, minority, female, low-income household

Essay: wrote the first one about moving to america but mostly about my family and our hardships. wrote the second one on my experience and leadership abilities as editor of the school paper.

Other information: average high school from northern california, most of the students applied to UCSD, was the only person in the entire school to take more than 7 classes a year (i had 8 classes all through sophomore and junior year), took Psych 001 and Pre-Calculus at a CC (got A’s. ahaha), won 1st place in a county wide Spanish Poetry Contest, Grand Award for the Drama Department.

so there is hope yet for the average student to get into a good school. i think as long as you show that you are a well rounded person who can balance school, ecs, work, family and friends you should have a pretty good shot at any school.

i hope i see some of you in school in the fall!!!
