ACCEPTED STANFORD 2004... My Stats.

Hi all,

I was a frequent visitor of this site last year when the pre-college acceptance letter nerves were a bit jittery… It was a lot of help for me, so let me give you my stats, if that will help anybody…

Asian American Male
SAT: 800m/780v
GPA: 4.0 uw
Valedictorian (tied with like 20 others, no weighted grades in my school)
1 good rec, 2 great ones
National Merit Scholar
1 great essay, a couple good/ok ones

Nothing spectacular ec wise… 4 years of sports, some volunteering and stuff, but it helps that I tied them together–I spent a lot of time volunteering with the sport I play, and I tutor in the subject I took university classes in, etc… Honestly though, I didn’t do much outside of school except what I wanted to do…

Don’t let the numbers scare you… a lot (most) people I’ve talked to score within 1450-1550 range, with some even lower. SAT score is NOT a big deal. Do the best you can, but don’t cry over it!! Same with GPA, just do the best you can… I know plenty of people that weren’t Valedictorian or anything. You don’t have to be perfect to get into Stanford. Good luck!!

thanks for the info, nice to hear a normal human being on this site for once!

Spammmmmmmmmmmmmer

Yeah, it’s pretty normal here, don’t be intimidated. …I was a member of this forum for the longest time until my member account got deleted

Um, of course you got in-- you were 20 points away from perfect on you SAT; not to mention valedictorian. As long as you sent the rest of the application in you would have been accepted.

Wow mauiboy, that’s completely inaccurate. Do you know how many applicants Stanford gets a year that are valedictorians or have perfect/near perfect SATs or both? A lot more than they have spots. So, even if they wanted to fill up their whole class with people like that, they’d still end up rejecting many of them. And, like xmc said, there are a lot of people in 1450-1550 range, etc. I don’t know how many times can be repeated, but the SATs and even your class rank are by far not the most important things about getting into the top colleges.
