<p>I went and I’m still undecided. My host and her friends weren’t incredibly persuasive; she was timid and sort of latched onto her friends who also had prospies - they were more interested in planning partying for the weekend/gossiping than entertaining students. BUT I did love the Italian Dep’t (the head of the dep’t called my cell and gave me the #s of students I could get in touch with; VERY friendly!) and all the professors whose classes I sat in on were very kind. I’m def not worried about fitting in there.</p>
<p>Sorry your hosts were flaky. There’s no screening or application process for open campus hosting, since so many hosts are needed. They just kind of take whoever, so it’s a real grab bag for both host and guest. </p>
<p>Glad to hear the rest of your experiences were positive. It makes me miss Smith so much, i can’t wait to get back there.</p>
<p>My D didn’t particularly bond with her hosts on either overnight but the overall sense of connection she felt with multiple people, including profs, helped sway her. I agree with S&P…hosts are a real grab bag. I know my D was hosting a STRIDE student, don’t know what major.</p>
<p>My daughter was unable to attend. Could you please fill me in on what you loved/didn’t love about it? What classes did you attend ? How were the houses? Did the girls seem friendly? Did you attend any sporting events ect…
I’d just like to get your general feel. My D seems to really like Smith, but she’s not so sure about going to an all girls school. Did you see boys from other colleges walking around,taking classes ect…

<p>I went and really enjoyed it- I attended 2 classes, The Environment (a geology class) and another one on Plant-Animal Relations. Both were very small (about 6-15 people) and the teachers were amazing. I stayed in Scales house, which was really nice, all singles. Some of the rooms were pretty small and some were huge for dorm rooms (several girls had double or queen sized beds). The bathrooms were really clean (yeah!) and each girl had her own cubby. </p>
<p>Almost all the girls that I met there were really friendly and helped me if I got lost or just had some questions. Everyone really seemed to love the campus and the college. All the girls that I met that were prospective students were really nice and interesting too- I made friends really quickly. </p>
<p>As for the guys, I saw a couple walking around campus and I had 1 in one of my classes, but for the most part, it was all girls. However, my host and some of her friends told the group of prospies that I was with that they took classes at UMass and other colleges so they weren’t only on the Smith campus. </p>
<p>And I have to say… the campus was amazing- I really want to see it in the summer now. </p>

<p>I also went to open campus and discovery weekend. For open campus I stayed in Wilson house with one of the soccer players. She and the team were very nice. I sat in on a intro to sociology class. The class was long, but interesting (they were talking about flight attendents and the way they act now and why). I also took an atheletic tour and the facilities are amazing. I also did a science tour and the research that some of the professors were doing were very intesting. One was doing one that delt with embryos and nervous system of blue fish. </p>
<p>My experience for discovery weekend were a little different. I didn’t really see or bond with my host as much. We just didn’t have the same interests, and when we went out they social scene wasn’t exactly my cup of tea. However, I did see a number of guys at night and also some during the day–but the guys during the day were usually with another girl. I got to go on a bus tour of the other 4 campuses and they were closer than I thought. </p>
<p>Overall, from the panels and classes I sat in on, the teachers and faculty sounded very knowledgable and I feel that if I went to Smith, I would definity get a great education. However, im still a little worried about the social scene. Ofcourse, I didn’t experience what it was like going off campus but I felt a little uncomfortable at times.</p>
