Accepted Students Days: What sealed or sunk the deal?

So in the middle of indecision time and accepted students days for so many seniors I thought I’d ask if anyone has good stories to share on what sealed or sunk the deal for your student.

For mine the lively marching band and then having everyone put their arms around the person next to you while we all sing the school song together at the beginning of the day nearly sunk it for my introvert.

The one on one tour of a residential college sealed it.

U Michigan -25 below zero air temperature. Sealed the deal by keeping us comfortable on the tour, dashing from one building to another, no talking til well inside each building, re-routing tour so never outside long between stops, stopping mid tour for hot chocolate.

U Chicago last week: temp 30s, gray, snow/sleet/rain the entire time. Text from DD at midnight during dorm sleepover “Mom, I’m nauseated, I think I’m going to throw up” (not alcohol :). Despite this, loved, loved it. Her dorm hosts were concerned and helpful (she was ok), adored the fellow prospies (yeah, a good reason to choose) who she felt ‘got her’ for the first time in her life, could not stop gushing about how beautiful the school was (had previously been on campus several times since she was 2 years old and never noticed?), honors physics class she attended was challenging but not overwhelming, got to meet David Axelrod… What’s not to love?

Still has one more visit to do next week to another school she loves. Then decision time. May be difficult…
