ACCEPTED TO UC BERKLEY with an 1840 and a 23 ACT score!!

I just want to let it out there that it’s possible. It’s possible to get accepted without having a 2000 or 4.0 GPA. I had a 3.9 unweighted and a 4.1 weighted GPA. It also depends on your essay and what school you come from. I personally think that my essays got me accepted. Good luck and I hope this gave you guys that confidence to know that you all have a chance regardless of your score. Show them you are not just a test score nor just a GPA.

Just curious, are you a URM? Do you have any hooks? Because if yes, then the answer is still that it’s NOT possible for anyone else without those high stats and amazing hooks.

The only hook if you even consider it is my personality. I had hardships when I was young yes, but I never even mentioned that nor did I mention that I immigrated to US. A major hook I guess is the lack of oppurtunities my school has like no AP/IB or limited clubs but I took advantage of what I had. So yeah… they really do check your application holistically or I would not have been admitted.

URM does not matter in any UC or state school as ethnicity is not taken into account in California. What does matter is where you went to school, as you mentioned, your school had low opportunities, which means the fact that you did fairly well even while at a disadvantage because of your school is actually great. So no, it’s really not possible for anyone to get in with lower scores if they’re from a middle to upper range hs/community.

Congratulations on getting accepted!

Congratulations!

I feel the absolute same way: my essays were what got me accepted. I was in the same boat as you were: 1820 SAT, 26 ACT, 4.0 UW GPA, 4.31 UC GPA, and an out-of-state applicant (not really much of a hook nowadays, but I am a first generation college student). I’ll be seeing you at Cal (if you’re going that is…)!
