You can also email the professor of the certain class your trying to get into. Might also need to try to redo the schedule to get it to work or take English the next semester or the like.
Has anyone received their housing assignment yet ? We got email June 25th saying it will be sent out in 1-2 weeks.
Thanks
I haven’t gotten my contract yet and no one in the group chat I am in has either.
My son just told me that everyone of his fall classes are going to be online, and none will be meeting in person. My heart sank when he told me. I can’t believe I am going to pay $65k for my son to sit in a dorm and take classes online. Part of me wants to tell my son to just take a gap year.
I would feel better if I knew that at least some of the large classes he is taking have smaller discussion sections that will meet in-person with a TA. Does anyone know how you can find whether that is the case or not for particular classes?
The LSA course guide has been updated with a column to show which classes/sections are in-person, online or hybrid. However, one of my son’s classes that was in-person a few days ago has now been changed to online so it may not be final.
@BeefStew2. Check during the week online to see if things change. My sons a senior and his schedule changed twice to far.
My kid’s classes are changed over the past few weeks from in-person to online. And now even the labs and discussion groups. All online. What can you do? Nada.
@sushiritto, I agree with you from a practical and rational perspective. However, as the parent of an incoming freshman, the emotional side of me wants to tell him to take a gap year so that he can have the full benefit of learning from UMich’s professors live and in-person. But, It’s not going to happen. That’s just my emotial side talking.
This could go from online to in person after a couple weeks if there isn’t an outbreak of cases no one seems to be talking about that possibility.
@BeefStew2 Oh, I’m not happy about it. UMich advertised a “hybrid” approach, but that dissolved quickly the past few weeks. As I said on another thread, I’m telling my kids to “embrace the suck.” I do have to say that the transition from in-person to distance learning last Spring appeared seamless to me. They definitely made it happen after a Spring break.
sushiritto, I think you should have that phrase trademarked. Then, have t-shirts made that read:
M
COVID
Embrace the Suck
They will sell out at M Den.
Has anyone received specific information about move in- day and time? Also, the fridge rental place requires a room number and house within the dorm, and all we got was “East Quad.” Anyone know about what to do?
Call the Housing Office. Yes, the fridge rental company will need your exact address.
The Quads (East, West, South) have different houses for different buildings within the Quad.
When can student actually start the stay on the campus ? Can it be on the same day as designated move in date ?
The move in time slot is between 24-30 ,so if student moves in on 24th he/she is allowed to start staying on campus same day onwards?
Thanks
That’s the way it worked back in 2018. Once you move in during your assigned date and time slot, you’re moved in.
Yes. Once you move in your moved in but call housing today and just ask. With covid things might change so call to make sure. BTW - congrats!!
My son, an incoming freshman electrical engineering student, has been assigned to Mary Markley dorm. He has a roommate and they will be sharing a two-person room. Does anyone have any experience/info about this dorm? Specifically, ease of getting around, physical environment, size etc. He has been told it is not air-conditioned. How uncomfortable will this get? Thanks in advance for any info!
Parent… Lol… He will be fine. The Hill is a great area next to the Arboretum. Have him or go with him to take a walk there. It’s beautiful. Great place during a quarantine to study, hike, sit next to the river. You don’t think your even on a college campus till you walk 10 minutes or so to central campus where most of his classes but 2 will be. He has best of both worlds, trust me. Few are air conditioned. You can have one put in if you want to. August and early September can get hot. So it’s up to you. My son’s a senior in engineering and never had one. He has a few fans. Most of the dorms have been redone but not sure about Markley. I think it was scheduled to be done then the pandemic put a hold on it…
Congrats.
Hi, My son is an incoming freshman and has been assigned to Bursley Hall. All his classes are online. We are trying to decide if it would make sense for him to go to Ann Arbor this semester or would he be better off taking classes online from home in NJ. Michigan was his dream school and we are all excited to see him go to Ann Arbor. However not sure how many freshman kids will actually show up this fall. If most of the kids decide to take the classes remotely, we would have him stay home. Not a great choice but these are strange times.
