Accepted University of Michigan Class of 2024

Nevermind to my question above - my housing application was just made available today.

What campus are freshmen Engineering classes mostly on? I’ve heard they are not on North Campus. Is that true?

@2022soon congrats first. Think the assignment is random unless you are part of a residential community. Even with engineering if your coming in with normal workload most of your classes will be on central campus as a freshman since everyone takes Chem, physics, Calc, Gen Ed’s together . Once your engineering is declared that will change to mostly North Campus in Sophomore year and beyond.

@Knowsstuff Thank you! He’s very excited. Great, that’s helpful. He met someone who was asking him to room & apply to the innovation community/was just trying to be sure it wasn’t too far from his classes. He’s a very social kid, but like all Engineering students I’m sure-very academic as well.

If it’s on East Quad he is like 6 minute walk to his classes. He will have like 1 class or so on North Campus. 15 min bus ride. Not an issue at all.

Great housing idea if he gets it.Works with engineering great. One of my Seniors (did I really say that) minor is in entrepreneurship… Check out https://ai.umich.edu/students/ alsohttps://innovateblue.umich.edu/about/?_ga=2.36897513.890965485.1589116919-1761006143.1565013330 . Good Luck to him.

Good Afternoon!
My student is accepted to Ross OOS; he is interested in the Living Business Community for housing (assuming the school starts back up in fall). However, we are a little confused about the application process. While filling out the housing application, we are asked our preferences of North campus vs somewhere else; quad vs rooms and all that. How do we navigate this? Sorry, if this has been asked before, but any advice would be welcome.
Thank you!

So this is located in West Quad which is a beautiful dorm. My son lived there his first year.follow the instructions on the link page. This is on central campus in a great location. https://housing.umich.edu/themes/living-business/

Ok. Thanks!

Sorry if this has already been asked and answered, but for those that have applied for a Michigan Learning Community residence, specifically Living Arts, how long did it take for you to hear if you were accepted?

Hey everyone! Looks like a lot of people on here are going to U of M and have questions. I’m a rising senior at U of M and worked with some friends to create incoMing, a by-students for-students mentorship program designed for freshmen students entering the Ann Arbor campus. Incoming students often have little resources or connections to get their questions answered and learn about college life leading up to their first day on campus!

With the incoMing program, incoming students can casually text, email, or video chat 1-on-1 with current UMich students personally matched to your academic, social, and personal interests through a quick matching form to gain a holistic and transparent perspective on the transition to Ann Arbor.

Does anyone know anything about the placement exams? should I be trying to do very well on them. Can I place out of Spanish? do I have to take calc? should I be taking the chem placement exam if im going to be a communication major and hate science? I have a lot of qs lol

Math at UMich is whole different animal, be careful as to how you place yourself , talk with your advisor during the orientation process. Yes you can totally test out of a language however you might want to see the specific requirements of your intended major, for example International Studies requires a few more classes in a language…anyway.
Also note the UMich Math and language departments are very demanding.

Does anyone know what mojo is like?

The residence and dining halls are bee-you-tee-full. The negative is that your walk to Central Campus classes is 10-ish minutes across a bridge.

Packing list of UMich does not indicate if auto shut off coffee maker is allowed in dorm room. Does anyone know if it is allowed?

Enjoy the coffee :coffee:.

Thank you @Knowsstuff
I totally missed this , was looking at a different umich link

@Akar7878. NP. I am excited for you. It will be different but it still will be Michigan! Housing has lots of good information. Go Blue!

Hi! My daughter did her online orientation/registration in June. She has been unable to add an English class due to her architecture schedule. She has required classes all morning and can only do English in the PM. The classes she is available to take seem to be saved for Honors kids or reserved for later orientation students - cant get on a waitlist for any of them. She has emailed an advisor twice with no help or answers - just gets a “keep checking back”. This seems ridiculous. Any one else have this problem or suggestion of what to do? Trying not to take over the process but she is so frustrated. Only registered for 6 hours at this point! Thank you for any help
