Accepted University of Michigan Class of 2024

The student ID is on the application portal. We did the set up last night and it was somewhat confusing. Your student can add you as an admin to the wolverine access once it’s set up.

Thanks! The wolverine access seems currently down. Last time I checked no information was available for financial aid section. Will monitor there.

@treschicos Hi…yes like @angelcatcher said, the student ID is on the application portal at the top - click on the box APP DETAILS
After we accepted we got an email saying…
“Welcome to the University of Michigan community! You need to set up a U-M login
ID (called a uniqname) and password. After you do that, an account will be set
up for you automatically.”
It is somewhat confusing …I agree! But you will need to create a new uniqname which will be you/your child’s permanent UMich login/email address. I think that the guest account is no longer valid once you accept. And you will also need to enable a two-factor authentication that gives approval access (basically it sends a text to your phone so login can be approved). Good luck!

@collegeboundin20 Today, my daughter’s wolverine access’ financial aid section has been updated with the scholarship + subsidized/unsubsidized loan offer.

@yawner Good to hear - that was quick!

Iḿ really confused on where to check financial aid/scholarships? Has anyone who got in on the feb 28 wave received Financial aid info?

@HellaStressed20 yes…sounds like @yawner (posts above) received acceptance on feb 28 and just got notice yesterday…check wolverine access under new and prospective student business. Your financial aid portal should show if your documents were reviewed/awards issued. If nothing is showing yet, it will probably be coming soon. You can always check in with financial aid and ask if your file has been reviewed yet - they have been extrememly helpful when I have called.

How common are double majors at Michigan? And Is much AP/IB credit awarded?

@swimmergirl47.

Students do them in just about any combination you can think of. But what advantage does it give you. Plus… Look at both curriculums. Some can be very tough and not give you any free time. You want to be able to explore everything that Michigan has to offer. That’s part of the college experience.

Talk to your advisor and discuss. They will give you some real feedback.

I’m not sure it’s common, but it’s not as rare as you might think. I’ve seen a few students apply for dual majors for SMTD and LSA, Ross BBA and CoE and/or CoE (like a BME) and LSA.

My own kid has one major and two minors. And could make one of those minors into a 2nd major and still graduate in 4 years.

In my kid’s case, UMich was quite generous with AP credit(s). There are placement exams for math, chem, language from what I can remember. So, with your AP scores and UMich placement test scores in hand, you would meet with your advisor to discuss your path and classes. You don’t officially declare your major(s) until 2nd semester sophomore year.

However, I will say, for some, “repeating” calc, chem and bio, if you’re STEM, at a college level, would probably be beneficial. Not everyone, but for some. OTOH, those 100-series bio, chem and Calc classes are weeder courses too.

^^^^Yes… Weeder classes =not easy. Get ready to study hard that first year. People underestimate how hard Michigan really is. Be careful what you wish for and have a schedule you can stick to.

Time management is key!! :watch:?™

Yes, UMich is a HUGE step up from high school in terms of the level of work. And get ready for homework assignments to be due at midnight on Friday nights. :rage:

And tests/midterms aren’t taken during class time, but 6:00-8:00 PM at night.

I’d say go light with # of units that 1st semester.

Anyone attending Campus Preview Day next week Friday 3/13? We are scheduled to travel to Ann Arbor from SF on Thursday and I wonder if it will get cancelled… I contacted the appropriate office to ask if it was still “on” and they said yes - but I am seeing all these other schools cancel Campus Visit days due to coronavirus… Just curious if anyone on this chat is going.

We’re scheduled on March 27th, and I’m wondering the same thing. Don’t think UMich has made the call yet, but will not be surprised if it’s cancelled. It’s just one part of our Spring Break plan that is subject to change.

@momzilla2D - where are you traveling from? It’s not our Spring Break yet (ours is in April).

We live in MA, but have some complicated Spring Break plans. Boston to Los Angeles to visit family, LA to Mississippi to visit more family, then Mississippi to Michigan for the revisit day, and finally back to Boston. Of course, everything is non-refundable.

@momzilla2D - same here, non refundable airfare… Ugh.

So far here have been no cases here in Michigan, pretty much business as usual so far.

I am more worried about graduation and senior end of the year activities.

It’s gonna get a whole lot worse before it gets batter.

I was on campus yesterday and all was normal as well. Going back tomorrow to take my son for a birthday lunch then back to Chicago.

For them to change to a remote format for classes should be a breeze but of course an undertaking. Kids still have to go to eat etc in dorms

@Norcal1972 We are planning to attend the campus day on the 13th as well…coming from SoCal. Hoping that we would hear soon if this was to be cancelled!
