Accepted University of Michigan Class of 2024

Just got a text and call from my son. Agh… Anyway he still trying to hold it and it’s on Augmented Reality and they are talking about going virtual. They have sponsors like Ford and Microsoft etc…

I was planning on going back to A2 and moving my kid out of her apartment. Just not for another 6-7 weeks. :mask:

@sdmom22 We decided we aren’t going. I called Campus Visit office earlier today and asked how many ppl were attending on Friday and she said over 200. Even though they haven’t sent an email yet - I cannot imagine they will have the event. My son has seen campus and although we really wanted him to meet some other admitted students (we planned to attend the CA evening reception), I don’t think this is the time to be flying for an event that might not be as expected (if they still have it). ?

@Knowstuff They are trying to hold what? Campus Day being virtual. And if so, are students expected to do from home vs. traveling to Ann Arbor.

This whole thing is crazy - how are kids supposed to make decisions on 5/1 when they haven’t many campuses that were in the consideration set? UW sent decisions Friday night followed by campus closed campuses; most UCs haven’t announced decisions but announced closed campuses through mid-late April.

This really stinks for the class of 2020!

More people die due to massively overwhelmed hospitals and ICUs that are over capacity, VS our kids don’t visit campus. It’s a small sacrifice.

@sdmom22. So sorry. My texting abilities don’t seem good lately…

My son is putting on a conference on campus on Augmented Reality /Virtual reality. It was canceled but they are looking into putting on the conference virtually.

My son’s staying on campus for now . He will make up his mind next week. But my daughter at her Lac is coming home on Monday since her school is shutting down for a week…

So people can still walk around campus on their own. Especially if your local to get a feel of the school. We did this for a few schools. Sure many kids won’t be there but the stores etc will be open.

“All U-M events and events organized by others on our campus that would convene 100 people or more are cancelled from Thursday, March 12 until at least April 21. At this time, Information Sessions and Campus Day sessions for admitted students are cancelled through Saturday, March 21, and guests who have registered for these events will be notified by email.

Don’t understand why admitted students events are cancelled only thru March 21. We’re scheduled for March 27. So I guess it’s still ‘wait & see’ for us.

@momzilla2D - my friend who was planning to visit with her daughter in April for a Campus Day got the email that Campus Day visit was cancelled. Did you not get that email? It came out later this afternoon.

I’ll check with my daughter. I hope you’re right. Thanks!

@sdmom22 - did your son fly to Michigan anyway? I just sent you PM

Do you think campus closing will delay MLC decisions? They said decisions will begin rolling out in mid-March but I haven’t heard anything yet.

Has anybody received any merit aid? Or, does anyone know of someone who has?If possible include the name and when you received it.

Has anyone heard back about the Bell Scholarship? They said they would notify winners & alternates by March 15 … wondering if it got delayed b/c of coronavirus or if they already sent out the email?

I received one of the Kessler Presidential Scholarships! I’m really considering U Michigan so I’m super excited!

did you receive the Kessler scholarship in the mail or did they email you?

Not entirely certain, but believe they have delayed their process due to administration alterations and what not.

Do any of u know if theres a groupchat for addmitted umich students?

@blakebortlesfan i was looking for one of those too

Hi everyone,

My name is Kristina, and I’m a reporter for The Michigan Daily. I’m working on a story that looks into how the COVID-19 outbreak is impacting incoming/prospective students, especially those who wished to visit campus (for tours, Campus Day, etc.) before all UM events were cancelled.

If you are in this position and have thoughts to share, email me at krizheng@michigandaily.com. We can schedule an over the phone interview to talk more. Thanks!
