Hi, I applied to a university and was accepted there, but on my application, I forgot to mention that I had earned some useless random Associates Degree what was meaningless and easy to get at my community college. When they find out, will they rescind my acceptance for not being forthcoming about that? Seems like i forgot to mention something that would probably help my chances of being accepted into a university, even though its an unrelated useless liberal arts degree and im a STEM major.
How did you forget your degree when asked specifically about educational background on the applications?
Was this degree obtained while still in high school? If so, you are usually still considered a freshman admission. But the school still needs a transcript.
If it was obtained after high school, then it would be a big problem. You would not be a freshman admit, but a transfer applicant. The transcript from the community college should have been sent as part of your application process; colleges require transcripts from all schools attended.
Depending on the policies at the university, there may be very different standards for transfer applications. This could effect your status. They may decide to let you attend, but they need to be informed. That way you can also stop worrying about it, or reapply if needed.
Call the school and discuss this with them immediately. Yes, they could rescind your application, and yes, they may very well discover the deception if you do not correct it. There is a clearing house that provides information to schools on all schools that a student has attended. In that case you could be expelled. By not providing information on the application that is required, you were deceptive, which is grounds for removal.
Yes, they can rescind your acceptance. Not only do you have to tell them, you have to send transcripts. I don’t see how you could forget to list it when you’re asked about your previous schools and your highest level of education. Did you pay out-of-pocket for the cc or did you get financial aid? If you received any state or federal aid, it will probably show up when they prepare your financial aid package. If they consider you a transfer student you won’t be eligible for freshman grants, so don’t enroll without clearing this up and finding out how much they’re going to charge you.
You should contact them asap. There is a National Student Clearinghouse where colleges can get info on what colleges you have attended.
Did you have your transcript sent, and just not list the degree, or did you not send the transcript?
Not sending the transcript could cause you a huge problem, so get it sent and go throw yourself on the mercy of the admissions office. Prepare for the worst.
Sending the transcript but not listing the degree would mean that they do know you have that degree because it is right on the transcript. So this is worth double-checking, but probably less likely to cause you problems.
And please, stop referring to your AA as a “useless random” degree. You needed to earn two full years of college-level credits to get that degree. That is nothing to sneer at no matter how easy you thought the courses were. That “meaningless” liberal arts degree may well mean that you never have to take another gen ed class on the way to your STEM bachelors degree.
