Accounting + Music Theory?

Would love suggestions on colleges that are strong in both Accounting and Music Theory. Thanks!

So are you thinking a double major, likely very difficult. or you’re unsure so rather a school that’s solid in both.

I think accounting, if they have a b school, will be fine. Sure there are rankings and not all business programs have accounting, but in general, if they have accounting, you can do fine. Sure, some may have more Big 4 than others but I remember my nephew, even at UNLV, had Big 4 recruitment in Denver and SF.

So I’d figure out which kind of school you like - large, small, urban rural - because a small school like Bucknell could work, a mid size like Miami of Ohio or a large like Penn State, etc.

Who could tackle both - I don’t know as both might be in depth majors without a lot of cross over, but maybe an FSU, Miami, Michigan, NYU, UIUC, or USC or going to less competitive admits, schools like U Denver, Ithaca, Butler or less selective large schools like Oregon or Arizona State.

It really depends on what you desire - and to build a list from there. Of course, your stats matter as well.

For the “music theory” part…does this student want a degree with that major?

Music theory is usually taken as part of a music major, which can be a BM (performance, composition, production etc.) or a BA (liberal art). But it can, of course, be taken as an elective. Can you tell us why you want music theory? Are you a musician, composer, or just interested? A theory sequence might be, say, 3 or 4 classes and there are many ways for you to take those without it being a criterion for your accounting search.

– Without knowing the student’s academics, ECs, standardized test scores, financial restrictions (if any), other restrictions (ex. geography), and preferences (size of school, location, interest in Greek Life, big time sports, etc) it is hard to make meaningful recommendations.

– Would the student consider a minor in Music Theory? That may make the combination easier.
