accounting scholarship

Are there any non-college-specific accounting scholarships for accounting majors for sophomores and above?

Yes there are - AICPA, NSA, CFE, and others. Check locally and regionally, too. Your state accounting society, women’s accounting groups, business groups, etc. may have some. Don’t forget to look for general business scholarships - accounting majors can do pretty well when competing for scholarships with other business majors.

I had decent luck with local scholarships, but I was a non-traditional student with a need component and a 3.95 undergrad and accounting GPA. I won scholarships from a local credit union, a local non-profit that supports local small business, the local chapter of the ACFE. Just keep googling!

Be aware, I applied to something like 50 directly relevant scholarships, and I won maybe 5-6 awards. I had a chance to meet with the selection committees of a few (at local banquets) - and there is truly a huge luck component in being awarded a scholarship. They’re inundated by hundreds (and sometimes thousands) of very qualified applicants. I felt very lucky and blessed to get what I did: I could have easily gotten nada.

Selection committees like to know 1) That you’re genuinely in love with accounting/business and 2) That you have a very firm plan to get your CPA (or a job), and 3) That you’re meeting the goals you’ve set for yourself. They want to give their awards to people who have demonstrated they will ABSOLUTELY be successful.

Although I didn’t pose the original question, THANK YOU carebear77! What greats advice. That info will be very helpful for my daughter
