Acer Aspire Timeline--Has anyone seen one of these yet?

Hi,
I honestly don’t know anything about the quality or reliability of the Acer brand computers. While surfing around on the internet today, I saw some info on the new Acer Aspire Timeline. It seems to be an Acer equivalent of the Mac Air. It’s windows based, lightweight, thin, powerful, and includes the DVD slot which Mac Air does not. Compared to the Air, it’s a bargain when it comes to cost. As I mentioned, I don’t know anything about Acer but I found the design interesting and I thought I would pass it on for those who may be curious.

Well it does not look as attractive as the Macbook Air, it certainly kicks the former’s ass in terms of performance.

However, in my opinion the usefulness of super-light laptops are limited, especially when their performance is comparable to a $600 conventional (weight-wise) laptop. It’s cheaper to purchase a conventional laptop and a netbook than a single Macbook Air (I doubt the Acer Timeline will be significantly cheaper than that).

Cheaper Dell with better performance

rumor is that the price for the Timeline will be between $699-$899

The above shows a video of the Timeline. Do you think it will be a successful product?

If it actually is $699 I think it could be successful, though I wouldn’t bet on it being that price…

also it goes up to a 15.6" which would weight 5.3 lbs and not be a competitor to the air at all. the only one that seems to be really light is the 13" one that weighs 3.5 lbs which would be about half a pound heavier than the air.

Acer = crap. By your fourth year of college, you’ll be regretting your purchase. I have three friends who bought Acers, and they’re starting to get very frustrated.
