This started happening about a month ago. If using the up/down option on the remote, it gets “stuck” on HSN and won’t move. Apparently this is a real problem as there is a lot about it on the web, but several of the solutions I’ve seen there don’t seem to work for us (eg trying to use the guide button to manually change the channel). Anyone else having this problem and have a solution? I’ve had to turn of the tv/cable and then try to quickly change the channel while its rebooting. Surely there is a better solution (besides chucking Comcast, that is, which is one possibility). Help!

How much do you think HSN paid for that to happen :)? No advice.

LOL, deb. That’s what others joked on some other forums when I went in search of a fix. The common sentiment was that they were p*ssing off people and that if this was intentional (Comcast denies) its backfiring

We don’t have Comcast but a similar thing happened to us a while ago. Hard reboot did the job. Unplug everything, wait a minute and then plug back in again. Disconnect everything including the cable.

Did it fix it permanently, singersmom? We will do that next but the stuff I am reading on the web says that may only be a temporary fix
but that’s what we will try next. Thanks.

The fix is DirecTV.

Is this the “shop by remote” issue where the remote becomes unresponsive when it hits HSN? If so, can you change channels using the guide or the “last” button? Here is a note from Comcast about it:

"There is a known issue with the current version of the guide that you have now if you directly tune to HSN the channel may be stuck there for a bit while an interactive application attempts to load. This is not intentional and not by design. The development teams are aware and are working on a fix.

One way to get out of this state is to go to the Guide grid (push the Guide button) and select another channel. A more drastic method would be to reboot the cable box (unplug and replug), that should resolve the problem for awhile while the teams implement a fix for this."

In a related note, I’ve been trying to train my wife - convince my wife gently - that using “guide” to pick channels is better than trying to punch in numbers or clicking up and down. Make a mistake on guide and nothing happens but the guide changes.

Program your phone to speed dial HSN and keep your credit card handy.

I have never purchased a thing from HSN and after this lovely experience I am not about to start!!

I read that “shop by remote” thing, lergnom, and wonder if maybe I accidentally pushed something I shouldnt. The remote has a gazillion buttons and things. Not sure I have a clue what operates what.

We had a similar problem with verizon. They tried to resend the signal but it didn’t help. They had us disconnect the wires and then reconnect them and that seemed to fix it. It was pretty simple for them to get it resolved. I would call customer service (but when we had comcast, the thought of that was enough to get me to give up TV forever) and let them try to walk you through a fix.

Maybe HSN is trying to make “An offer you can’t refuse” as Marlon Brando uttered in “The Godfather”. :D

Y’all better be careful what buttons you’re pushing on your remote controls or you could end up soon having delivery trucks backing up to your front doors with loads of cubic zirconia.

It’s not you. Comcast has been trying to write software that allows you to shop with your remote. That’s probably a good business decision but they’ve found it’s hard to stop the software from trying to load when you stop on HSN. That’s apparently the main hang-up. You’d think they’d come up with an opt in way but that has issues too - like the opt has to load because HSN isn’t broadcasting that, which means they have to load some software at some time to get you to be able to do this or not. It isn’t an easy issue.

That really backfired, I think, as all Comcast and HSN did was P.O many of their customers.

Considering the fact Comcast has been rated one of the worst/the worst ISP for customer service going back to the early '00s, they seem to have an uncanny knack for doing precisely that.

Do you have a way to block channels? Once you get off HSN, just block the channel so you never land on it again. It may be under “parental controls” or something similar.
