ACLU National Advocacy Institute

I’ve seen this question asked, but never actually answered - what are your experiences with the ACLU National Advocacy Institute? Is it worth going to? Is it selective or just pay to play? I’m considering it for this summer. Thanks!

Appears that total COA is $2,700 for a one week session not including personal spending money & travel costs. Scholarships are available.

If affordable, it is well worth attending. These are valuable real world advocacy & strategy skills taught by professionals in Washington, D.C. at American University (which is a very liberal university).

AU Park is one of the nicest residential areas in DC and it is safe. AU has a nice track for those who like to run/jog in such an environment, but the campus and surrounding area is safe and great for runners/joggers as well.

If you have an activist bent, then any time spent in DC should be a valuable experience.

P.S. Quite often, attending a week long seminar such as this can result in valuable contacts for internships and for college recommendations.

I would recommend this week long experience even for a conservative because the skills taught should be worthwhile throughout one’s lifetime. (Plus, it is good to know & to understand the opposition.)
