ACT best choice?

Hi,

I just got my March SAT results back (first shot), 1890 (600R 690M 600W), 8 on the essay.

This is disappointing, considering the fact I got 190 on the PSAT (68R/65M/57W) by just taking one supplied practice test, and since then I’ve been taking the Blue Book/Kaplan practice tests scoring 1980 - 2120 (about 650R/680M/710W) under shorter time conditions for each section, but now I’m faced with this. (Although I also recall circling my answers for one section in a previous section, only realizing/fixing it with a minute left in the said section for this real SAT.) For this reason, should I consider the ACT instead for this coming June?

I might just be worrying too much, but such backfired results are devastating to me.

(EDIT: Sorry, was meant to post this in the “SAT and ACT Tests & Test Preparation” forum…)

It seems your expected SAT score is around 2000-2100 for now. If you know the reason of the lower than expected score is related to mistake you mentioned, you should take it again and you would not make the same mistake. When you do practice test, you don’t have a really writing score without an essay. With an assay score of 8, it may have offset your writing by 30-40 points from your practice score. Nevertheless, you should try some ACT practice test to see if would do better with it. Not only the formata and question styles of the test are different, sometimes just the different section arrangements (e.g. start with essay and switching between Math and reading) may affect your performance too.

I suppose I’ll find out what I really missed on the 2nd. (Also the practice test scores I mentioned were assumed 8’s on the essay, although I did expect much better.)

Regardless I’ll check out the ACT and decide accordingly, thanks.
