ACT "Career Plans" and Admissions?

How’s it goin, CCers

I just took the ACT December 9th, did a real nice job. I was wondering…

For my “career plans” section or whatever it is called, I decided to put pre-med - something I am somewhat considering. This of course was done when I signed up in November or so.

However, when application time came around, I selected other majors in my applications, because I am still open to new majors and my interests vary with what each school has to offer. Since I sent these in recently, and these majors are indicated on the actual school forms (and discussed in the essays), I think these have more say in my intended major.

I don’t think is is really a big deal. What do you guys think? Can I change this somehow, or should I forget about it?

Thanks,
poppa

Anyone have an answer?

Forget about it. The “college major” you provide on the ACT or SAT registrations is completely irrelevant to your college applications. It’s just a way of getting on potential mailing lists if you are interested in hearing from some colleges you may not have thought about before. Some schools buy mailing lists based on certain minimum test scores and/or certain majors and/or career choices.

Thank you very much for your help, worried_mom

Seconding worried_mom. Ignore it. A lot of other information ACT collects at the time of the test day is irrelevant when it comes to your colleges apps – take the ACT GPA for example.

I agree that it doesn’t matter much, but if you did want to change it to a different major or undecided, you can call ACT at 319-337-1313 and do so.
