ACT Question.... HELP!!!

Please explain in detail how to do this question. thanks!

A model airplane is built to scale so that one sixth of an inch on the model airplane is equal to 1 foot on the real airplane. If a part on the model is one eighth of an inch wide, what is the width in inches of the corresponding part on the real airplane?

I know you have to set up porportion…the answer is 9 but I don’t know how they got it…

okay. the proportions are like this.

(1/6) / (1/8) = (12) / (x)

1/6x = 1.5
solving for x gives us 9.

Always remember to have the same measurements when solving propotional problems.

Please, anyone correct me if I’m wrong on this problem, but I’m pretty sure I’m write. ;)

oops I forgot to say to “cross-multiply” the two sides of the equation.

Boo’s answer is correct… I actually read the 1 foot as 1 inch at first :p
