I will be taking the ACT in June for the first time, and i was wondering (for the people that have taken the test already) does mapping the reading passages work?? ( By mapping i am implying taking notes while reading each passage)

Secondly, what advice could you give me for the english section? I am having alot of trouble with this section.

not nearly enough time to take notes

i just read through the passages and answered the questions, and finished w/ about 2-3 min. to go back & review… no note taking necessary… What exactly is your problem w/ the english section?

^^^ My major problem with the english section is the retorical questions. I always seem to get them wrong. Any adivce on how to approach them

By rhetorical questions I assume you’re talking about…what is the best way to say… That?

For these, I usually just go with the simplest choice, it’s usually the right answer. They’ll try to give you choices with a hundred adjectives, prepositional phrases, and extraneous function words galore. Try to ignore them for the most part, even though sometimes they make you feel like your being simple minded for choosing the short answers. The ACT actually likes concise, readable language. Go with it.
