Would it be better if I take both the SAT AND the ACT? Which test does Stanford prefer?

Stanford does not openly prefer either. Take both if you want; Stanford will only consider the higher score.

You can take both and see how you score. If you don’t know anything about the SAT, flip through a test book and see if it’s something you could do well on. If you live in a state that prefers the SAT, study for the ACT; the two are very different in style. I, personally, wasted my time with the ACT. It didn’t play to my strengths at all, whereas the SAT was eas(ier).

Agreed. I always do terribly on the science section of the ACT. I also don’t like that there aren’t many breaks during the ACT. Not that I did great on the SAT or anything lol, but definitely take both, see which you feel more comfortable with and do well on, and then focus your studies for that one. Or you could study for both, since they both test the same material anyway

Take both. Some people think the ACT is easier (like me). 2180 on SAT / 34 on ACT. I only sent my ACT score.

The science section on the ACT is killer. It’s very different from any other form of standardized test, in my opinion. Let’s put it this way… I got a 2250 on the SAT but I barely passed the science benchmark score.

I agree, the science section is weird. but it could work in your advantage- I got a 2100/2400 on my SAT but got 35/36 on the science section.
