ACT score for Hispanic

I have been interested in Yale for some time now, and I was wondering how good a 31-32 ACT composite is for a hispanic applicant.

I was a hispanic applicant last year (I got in ED), and I had a 32 on my ACT. That range is generally a good range to be in for any type of student. What you need to work on, after your scores, is to develop an essay that truly shows your character as a person and impress the admissions department with great ec’s that show passion or that you used all the resources at your disposal.

Why set the bar low? Try to score what the average non-minority applicant scores.

What is the average for a nonminority applicant? By the way, I realize that hispanics get a certain advantage, and I expect to fully appreciate that. I am not ignorant that this disgruntles many nonminorities but if you were in my position you would most certainly do the same-so let’s stop with the hypocrisy.

It just seems to me like you want to get a score that will barely be good enough. Why not aim for a higher score? Because you can get away with it?

By the way, I’m hispanic as well.

Can we not argue about this?

The Yale ACT range is not published for specific minorities. Therefore no one can tell you what the Hispanic ACT range is at Yale. Don’t ask for statistics that aren’t published. You will only get estimations/guesses/assumptions and other inaccurate, useless responses.

I can tell you that for ALL applicants the middle 50% ACT range is 31-34. That means that 25% of accepted applicants who submitted the ACT had scores above 34 and 25% of accepted applicants who submitted the ACT had scores below 31.

You’re right.

Anyway, according to Collegeboard.com, Yale’s ACT range is 31-34 (which I personally thought was much higher than Stanford’s 26-31). Going by this data, I would say that a 31 is fine, but of course, a 32 would be better.

Ferny Reyes, I hope you’re talking about SCEA Yale and not ED at some other university cough Princeton cough ;).

I posted this because I have been taking practice tests, and my scores fluctuate from a 31 and 32, not that I am seriously trying to cheat the system; however, I know that my minority status will be a great advantage and I plan to take, once again, full advantage of that. I have an excellent gpa, EC, recommendations, and fantastic essays; the only component of my application that will hinder me will be my ACT score, and that is why I am very concerned.
