As you may see, english and math are my highest, but r+s are very, very low. My C superscored would be 29, with a 27 R and a 24 S (lol).

Do colleges put more weight to the e and m sections? Ive heard diff. Versions of this, so idk. The univs. That interest me the most are UPenn and NYU.

28 is more than good enough for UPenn. As long as you have good ECs & other parts it shouldn’t matter. A 28 puts you in the top 10% of test takers nationally, I think the 25% for Upenn is 30 which means 25% got a 29 or less on the ACT and they probably only accepted 29-28s. If you are URM it helps, but remember 25% of accepted Penn students had around a 29/28

Although, if you are a science based major it could hurt, but contrary to popular belief a 28 is a great score, good job!

I know a 28 isn’t a bad score, but its just that when compared to the other test-takers that go to UPenn, mine seems not so good lol. By the way, I should specify that I am applying to Wharton Finance undergrad (which probably only lowers my chances! )

Do you know by any chance if they actually look at the scores of each section e.g. English
Math
Science
Reading

By the way, I’m Hispanic, from TX (and I don’t think anyone else is applying to UPenn, and the mode/average for my school SAT is 1450 (W+M+R) and 22 ACT. Im rank 12/107 if that has something to do.

Also, even though a 28 puts you in the top 10% nationally, the nation overall is not too bright. We rank so far behind the Scandinavian and Asian nations.

A 28 isn’t a bad score but it is a bit low for UPenn. UPenn’s average incoming freshmen scores between 31 and 34 on the ACT.
To answer your question while the ACT USED to be considered as a whole (meaning they would only see the composite score) now the ACT is reported in sections, so UPenn -and whichever other schools you are applying to- will see each section score. Each school considers tests differently, but I believe most schools look at each score equally.
Don’t let that discourage you though. Even with lower test scores you still have a shot -your class rank, ethnicity, essays, etc play a large part in your admission. Don’t focus to much on the stuff you can no longer change. Work on the essays and other last minute stuff that will push you over the top.

According to UPenn’s website “although Penn will pay attention to the highest scores from any test or subsection when reviewing a candidate’s application, having the complete testing profile provides deeper insight.” So if you send both ACT scores then they will superscore, but they will also examine the individual ACT tests.

I stand firm on what I have to say. If I had to add one thing, I would not let yellowsubmarine’s comment discourage you… The ACT & SAT are American tests, and being in the top 10% of your nation gives you a competitive advantage. International applicants are in a different pool than domestic… That being said, work hard on your application and keep your head up no matter what. Being ranked 12 in your class is a plus, in addition to being hispanic.
Although, if I had to make one comment there will be a large hispanic pool coming from Texas possibly applying to Upenn than lets say in maybe eastern states like Virginia

Also, IMO if you are as qualified as another candidate non URM and you bring diversity, but he has maybe a 30 ACT vs your 28 (29ss) ACT you would most likely get chosen… There’s not much of a difference between a 30 and 28, but there is between a 26 and 28 for example.

Thanks for the support coleword!
I am aware that my score is just a little below their average incoming freshman class, however, I know that the hollistic process reviews all the aspects of the applicant. All I can do at this point is just really hope!
Appreciate all your help guys!
