Hello,
I recently received my scores from the April ACT with Writing. I scored a 36 Composite (36R, 36M, 36S, 35E). However, I scored a 29 on the writing, with a ten on each domain.
Will this large of a score difference between my Composite and Writing scores (36 v 29) impact my applications to highly selective schools in the fall? Is it worth requesting a rescore?
Check out the SAT and ACT Tests & Preparation forum. The difference in composite and writing scores is hotly discussed. From what I have read, a 29 is really good compared to some students in the Fall who had high composites and writing scores in the teens. What percentile is a 29?
You can ask for a rescore (It will cost you $50 I believe).
Most schools don’t even care about the writing score.
True^, and the 29 (with 10’s across the board) is very respectable and places you in the 97th percentile.
I have a similar concern, with a 35c and a 28 writing. Spoke to my guidance counselor and she told me schools will not overanalyze your writing score, just make sure that you have taken it and didn’t do horrifically.
It is hard to know what horrific means given the disparities between the regular scores and the writing scores.
It might be a mistake on their part. When the new format for ACT writing came out in September 2015, a lot of students who were getting really high composite scores also got writing scores much lower than their composite score. I would definitely try for a rescore.
