activities - achievement or involvement?

With all other things being equal, if you have a limited amount of characters left in the description of an activity, is it better to list your achievement or involvement in the activity?
Example of what I’m talking about…
achievement: won significant piano competition
involvement: studied piano for 10 years

You really need to get both in there. Involvement shouldn’t take up much space, that is (10 yrs).

Hmm. The way I have it written now is “Taken private lessons for 10 years. Frequently participate and place well in adjudications and competitions.”

Thoughts? Are the names of the awards important? The main one isn’t not significant enough to be known outside of my (fairly large) region, but I think it’s notable nonetheless. There are probably 4 in total that are noteworthy, actually.

Write something like “10 years private lessons, competitions and adjudications, see add info”. That cuts down of the character count. Then list the specific competitions and such in the additional info section. You don’t have to use complete sentences; also, don’t be afraid of using abbreviations.

My general rule is that if it’s an all-state award or better, you might note it. If there are multiple such, you really only need to go the highest award. Name the competitions if they are generally recognizable.

Use the additional info section. Say “See additional information” in the short description. Then in Additionsl Info, create a header for the EC, and in CONCISE bullets, list the info underneath.
