Read the words of female and minority actors and actresses as they discuss their experiences (typically negative experiences) about trying to get work in Hollywood. It’s remarkable and a clear sign that significant problems remain in La La land.
This is a very interesting article. So eye opening and also a sad commentary on perceived race comments.
I didn’t click on this thread earlier, but saw the article via another venue and realized, Lake , that this is what you were probably referring to - worth reading.
Here’s one example:
From actor Wendell Pierce:
In 1985, I’m sitting in the casting office of a major studio. The head of casting said, “I couldn’t put you in a Shakespeare movie, because they didn’t have black people then.” He literally said that. I told that casting director: “You ever heard of Othello? Shakespeare couldn’t just make up black people. He saw them.” I started carrying around a postcard of Rubens’s “Studies of the Head of a Negro.” The casting director actually was very kind to me. He referred me to my first agent.
You might get more discussion if you changed the thread title. Right now it doesn’t accurately portray what the article is about.
@LakeWashington, thanks: great article.
