Actual Work Difficulty (CAS)

How hard is the workload in CAS for psychology majors? I expect it to be harder than high school, but is it too hard to handle? I would like to have a social life in some form, but I’ve heard that some schools in NYU have the students working nonstop. Is this true?

NYU is a very good school with very good students. In most, if not all CAS majors, the workload is tough – much of your weeknight evenings and a good amount of your weekends will be taken up by reading and homework. The professors have high expectations.

If you manage your time well, however, I wouldn’t say it’s overbearing. If you try to read every page of every piece of reading assigned, well it might be overbearing, but you’ll learn what you need to read and what you can skip. If you stay on top of your work, you’ll be able to have a social life no problem.

^ Agreed with all that, it’s not too much to handle if you manage time. It is a lot harder than high school though.

To be honest, Psychology is generally considered one of the easier majors in CAS. I won’t speak for Steinhardt’s Psych program since I’m not familiar with it. I took 2 Psych classes (Statistics for the Behavioral Sciences and Cognitive Neuro) in the Psych dept freshmen year and they were easy compared to the other CAS classes I have taken.

Intro Psychology is the first class you’ll have to take for the major ; although the material isn’t hard, it is a lot of reading and memorization from what I hear. This class is also huge! But the classes will get significantly smaller after that.
