Actually Enjoy College Workload- Is this Weird?

Hey everyone,
Lately, I’ve been a bit confused as to how most- and by most, I mean the vast majority of my class mates don’t seem to give too much effort not interest in school. I was pretty much enchanted with the idea of making it a full time job to learn as much as I could through college, but everyone else seems to favor the idea of “YOLOing” and partying their brains out. Is/has anyone else going/gone through the same situation?
Right now I’m finishing up the pre-reqs for both mechanical and materials science engineering at a huge public flagship.

I don’t think it’s weird. I really enjoy learning and want to know more about everything even if it’s not in my field.

College, to some, is a looser extension of high school where they probably only care about subjects they need to know (ie; they only memorize what they need to know to pass and leave it at that). But I find that most students DO end up having at least one subject they’re really invested in learning… Usually their major.

I do have to say though that college is a great place to learn not only about academic subjects but life. What I mean by that is to never judge a book by its cover. I am what you describe a #YOLOer and am often judged for it but I probably have a higher GPA than those who judge me. Seriously. I’ve probably met some of the most interesting and even smartest frat boys and some of the dumbest honors kids in terms of street smarts throughout my 3 years in college. Especially at a large state flagship, there are so many intelligent individuals that succumb to the party scene because it’s college. I’ve been seeing so often on this forum that people tend to lump smart = good at school, and partyer = not caring about school. It’s only true like half the time IMHO.
