Addicted to Eagle Cam

I am totally addicted to the eagle cam http://www.eagles.org/dceaglecam/ Even have the small pic in pic on my tablet when I am doing other things. Anyone else? The babies are growing so fast since their hatching. It’s fun to watch the sibling rivalry, too.

oh yes…spending far far too much time watching eaglettes.

Oh nooo! An eagle can! Must. Stay. Away.

Some CCers might remember the drama that unfolded here in the Cafe when we watched a pair of Victoria BC eagles trying to keep their little eaglet safe during one of the nastiest, coldest spring seasons.

Same here, I check in during the day, and my wife and I are fascinated by it, how good parents the Eagles are, and now watching the eaglets as they get bigger and it is harder to keep them in the nest lol. When the second one was born, we had the eagle cam up on our tv set in the living room (it has a web browser built in), and watched for hours as we were painting and such. Plus it is rather soothing to watch it:)

berry college (remember it is all about college, LOL) eagles are bigger. Cam there is also addictive.

This is the site of the eaglet drama:

If you go to the bottom of the page, there is a link to a forum. 2009-2010. Phoenix the eaglet did not survive. :frowning:

I am addicted to a Michigan eagle cam on carbon TV. There was a snowstorm this weekend and mama eagle was buried, but she just hunkered down and stayed put over her two eggs. They are so beautiful and amazing it’s impossible to click away!! I was watching how the female sits there for hours so serenely, and then the dad comes to give her a break and he’s fidgeting the whole time, practically checking his watch. It cracked me up how much it reminded me of DH

I cracked up my wife with the DC webcam, the dad brought her a rabbit it looked like, and I can just read the dad’s mind "if I brought her a rabbit before the kids were there, we would be having fun. Now what I get is 'we can’t do that, the kids are here! and ‘you better go out and get more, they will be eating us out of house and home’…lol (and yes, I realize that is anthropomorphizing, adds to the fun:)

It’s getting dark now and the wind is picking up. The feathers are ruffling! It’s amazing how alert the mom (dad?) is.
Earlier today I saw the eaglet. Basically the parent must be sitting on top of it. I keep switching between camera A and camera B. Yes, very addictive!

I put the eagle cam up on the smartboard two weeks ago (before eaglets), and then again last week (after eaglets). The students were fascinated by the live cam, but somewhat miffed that the eaglets could only be seen in stills. They wanted to see them “live” without the parents. We will just have to check in again in a few weeks when they are bigger.

One of my favorites was in Whitehorse Yukon where I do business trips every so often so I saw them in person too! But they will not be filming this year due to the location of the nest they picked -not a good enough resolution, but…they gave this link to other North America Eagle cams, so now instead of binge watching House of cards or Making a Murderer I can watch this! much more soothing too!

Well, the second eaglet fledged today and so both are off on their adventures. I guess I need to find a new addiction now

this is the eagle cam I usually watch http://dukefarms.org/eaglecam Looks like these guys have not left the nest yet if you need something to watch

@BunsenBurner , I was waaaayyyyy into watching the Hornby cam that year. It was the first time I had ever followed something like that. I cried when the eaglet died.

My mom has been watching a cam this year but I haven’t been able to bring myself to do it again. :-<

I used to watch a webcam of baby redtail hawks at the Franklin Institute in Philadelphia. There is still a facebook group called “Franklin Hawkaholics.”

We had a sick eagle that simply sat in our yard for about a half an hour. My neighbor volunteers for the local raptor center and she and I came up with a plan that she would toss a blanket over it and hold on tight while I drive them to the raptor center. It got spooked and managed to get to about 20 feet up a tree where it perched all night. (It was probably better this way as because had he gotten loose in the car you all would have heard about the two women who were clawed to death by an eagle while driving down the freeway.) In the morning trained volunteers came to take him. Sadly he died later that day. There was a toxin in his blood that they were unable to identify.

For those who don’t know, dead eagles are always flown to the eagle repository in Colorado.

They are fascinating creatures.

Thanks for the bird cam link.

They should give the dad eagle a father’s day gift, he is still feeding the kids, yesterday brought a duck and several big fish to the kids. They are still going to be around the nest for a while, the older one (the female) slept in the nest last night. They will likely be in the area for another several weeks learning how to hunt for food, then will fly off according to what I read on the website. They were both amazing parents, and it was neat the eglets didn’t fight with each other:)
