Adding audio to power point...help!

Nothing makes me feel older than trying to learn a new technology. What makes it even more frustrating is that the class I am taking has nothing to do with learning new technology. No, apparently in this day and age you’re supposed to know how to do power point (which I can) and then how to add audio(are you kidding me!) I’ve already spent more time trying to add the melon farming audio than I did on the power point…

Basically, I’ve got a headphone/mic combo which is properly plugged in. I’ve got Power Point 2007. Under “Insert” in Power Point there is a button “Sound” and one of the options is “Record Sounds.” So, I hit record and say my two brief sentences for the first slide. I’ve tried hitting “stop” then “ok”, vise versa, you name it with any buttons that I can get too. All I wind up with is the sound symbol on the page but if I press it, it just highlights itself. I’ve tried setting the audio to play automatically with slide show but then the sound symbol just sits there while dead air plays.

Is there a trick to this? I’m willing to sell my soul at this point. So frustrating!

I would suggest looking at the “help” file on power point - click the blue circle with the question mark (on my program it’s in the top right corner) and search for “record sound” or “play sound” or something similar. I have actually found the step by step instructions pretty useful for things that I can’t figure out on my own.

I don’t know if the answer is in there, but it’s worth a try. This website saved me a bunch of time when Office 2007 was new.
Best of luck!
One more thought - are you in presentation mode when you are trying to play it? Play the slideshow, does it work then?

Oh dear. All I can do is sympathize and suggest you go find a 20-something. (He/she will either already know or will be able to figure it out just by noodling around.)
