Additional Information Box?

<p>What is acceptable to put in the additional information box in the writing section of the common app? I was considering giving information of my father’s illness (and eventual death) during my freshman, soph, and junior years. How would colleges view this information in this box? I don’t want them to think I am writing a “sob story” for them?</p>

<p>It would be appropriate to put such information there. However, you might instead consider having your GC write about your fathers illness and death in their evaluation (you could give them the pertinent information). Sometimes when it comes from a third party, it doesn’t sound so much like a “sob story” but still gets the necessary information across.</p>
