I decided to write the additional essay in common app to talk about my immigration to the US and learning English. Please tell me if it is okay.</p>
<p>This is my essay, is it too short? too long? what’s the word limit? how should I improve it?</p>
<p>Having been born in Vietnam and spend twelve years of my life there, I know that education is extremely important as well as a privilege. Back where I lived, many people could not afford an education and those that do rarely able to get much out of it. That is why I consider myself very lucky to have the opportunity to come to America. Though I was behind in learning once I started going to school because of my inability to understand English, I continued to do my best to catch up with my classmates. The first few months was hard; I was often teased for being an immigrant and the ESOL lessons were brief and infrequent. After one year, my English was considerately better, despite a slight accent in my speech. Even now, I continue to polish my English as well as improve on other subjects. America gave me the chance to have a wonderful education and I am glad I took it.</p>
