H needs to sleep elevated due to reflux issues. We have a Tempur-pedic mattress that we both love, so he has just been using extra pillows behind him to put off having to replace that with a new split. But we are beginning to look now at options for a split, or - possibly moving him to a non-split adjustable bed in another room and keeping our tempur-pedic in the master. That would be a major lifestyle decision, but not out of the question if it means a better night’s sleep for both of us. Neither of us watches tv in bed, so that is not a perk of getting the split for us. I may or may not use it for reading at night, but I really don’t need it for that as I generally just read for a short bit before turning out my light.
Would love to hear from others about their experiences going down this path!
I know some of my sibs have opted for “sleep number” beds. They seem OK with it because one likes “firm” and one likes “soft.” We just opted for me to sleep on one of the “kids” beds because H wakes several times/night and it’s easier for both of us to get a better night’s sleep when we sleep in different rooms. We looked into sleep number beds but decided against it.
We have a power frame - works great 20 years later but we rarely use it. Our mattress is Reverie. Bought at Costco. Haven’t seen it there in many years but looks like Mattress Firm sells. It’s been a great. We have a split king and each of us has our own power base.
Three years ago, after much research and testing, I bought a Beautyrest Black C-Class queen medium mattress at $2999 and the Beautyrest Advanced Motion II Adjustable Base Queen at $799 from Macy’s. At that time they were offering a $300 gift card for buying the mattress and $100 off the base; both essentially Black Friday offers but lasting a few weeks.
I have been completely happy with the adjustable bed. I do sleep in a different room from husband due to his snoring. I hadn’t seriously considered the adjustable frame (I was shopping fora new mattress), but the moment I tried one out at Mattress Firm, I was hooked.
I do use the bed for watching my Fire tv, but also frequently use the zero gravity mode for relaxing. I have occasionally just raised the foot a little for swollen ankles. I wish I had had it for my eyelid/brow lift surgery recovery, but am very happy to have it for my injured foot recovery.
We’ve had a sleep number adjustable for a few years now. I keep my side up some to help with snoring, but I really don’t know if it makes a difference. We do have different preferences for firmness, so that’s a bonus. It was wonderful after my surgeries when for weeks I had to sleep on my back with upper body and legs raised.
He does have a wedge pillow he uses, along with 3 or 4 other pillows because he really needs to sleep upright. I call it his pillow mountain. And that’s what we want to move away from.
How do sheets work if the sides adjust individually? Does the bed feel like there is a hole in the middle like in Europe when the king bed is just two twins pushed together?
Good point that the adjustable bed is nice to have for injuries and post-surgery! Hadn’t thought about that. And H would really like the zero gravity position.
There are split-king sheet sets available - we’ve bought them at Costco, even. Right now we have a thing that goes down the middle of the bed so it’s more of a regular king. I find it to be almost worse than the separation, but H likes it so We use regular king sheets with it in place.
That’s a real pain for people who have the split mattress format. Can be a PITA to make the bed and find desirable, reasonably priced sheets. We have a queen tempurpedic with the adjustable frame and it’s been great
I have the same beds. I love my adjustable as I sleep better with head raised. The wedge didn’t help much.
I bought mine at Mattress Firm. As had hurt my back and neck in auto crash, I had a note from MD, which eliminated taxes.
Have to say that after dragging my feet, I finally got a sleep study.
Not only do I not snore with my CPAP, all of my blood work is so much better. Blood pressure, A1C all my numbers have improved so much. I feel better. I don’t sleep sitting up.
There’s also an inspire device that can be installed and you don’t even need a CPAP if you can’t tolerate that.
Off my soapbox, sorry it’s been such a game changer in so many ways.
No, OP’s question was not for snoring but for gastrointestinal issues. The only mention of snoring was me saying I sleep in another room due to husband’s snoring. He can snore in many positions and heights!
