Adjusted GPA's

I know a girl who is in the process of law school applications. She had a very bad experience her first semester freshman year. Luckily, she went to an advisor and she told her to fail the two courses. My school allows you to retake F courses and takes only the 2nd grade in calculating your gpa. The two F courses remain on her transcript. She now has a very high gpa. Do grad schools base the gpa on their own calculations or the official school gpa? She has put down the official school gpa on applications

Another thread in the law school forum showed something about the LSAC including all grades that are on the transcript and have the units shown, even if retaken. I would imagine that they will be included.
