Admision to Medical School

I have a 7th Grader who is interested to be a medical doctor. I have heard that admission in a Medical school is a lot more harder than our native country.

Q1. In our ISD, there are schools specialised in different academies such as engineering, medical program, visual arts, etc. If he goes to a school specialized in medical academy-from 9th Grade onwards, , is it easier to get into a medical school after undergraduation?

Q2. I have heard that there is a kind of direct admission to Medical school without taking MCAT after undergraduation. Anybody knows details? If he goes to Medical Academy, is it easier to get into direct admitted college??

Q1. You go to high school to get into college. Medical schools don’t give a crap about high school.

Q2. I would never put a kid in high school in a medical academy. Just send him to a high school he’ll like.

My opinion: Don’t even think about med school right now. He probably has never kissed a girl, let alone know what it’s like to watch someone die. Let him grow up and have fun. If he truly wants to be a doctor that bad, then he’ll do the research when he’s ready.

^Agreed. This question is EXTREMELY premature. In all honesty, every 12-year-old wants to be a doctor/racecar driver/professional athlete/etc. Once he has finished HS with excellent grades and been in college for a year or so, it’s time to start asking questions like this but typically not until then. For now, doing well in school will get him into a career, whatever career he ends up wanting to pursue but right now he’s a child. Let him be a child for awhile.

I think a good, comprehensive high school with a good, comprehensive science/math curriculum is the best road to take. Specialization for young kids can be problematic as there are very few (read: almost none) middle school kids who really know what they want to do with themselves. Well-rounded exposure to ECs and life in general is the best way to prepare your son for his future. If he has interest/time, volunteering at the local hospital might be a good thing. Most have age restrictions, so he has a few years to go before being eligible for that. After he has excellent high school grades/test scores, is admitted into a college that works for him AND has a major that he truly enjoys, he can think about the possibilities of medical school.

Yeah, it’s waaay too early. Just send him to a high school he likes. He should be thinking about this stuff in like 10-12th grade of HS (enough time before college applications). Make sure he’s not deprived of a social life, interpersonal skills are very important in the future.

I’m not sure, but I don’t think colleges look at the high school.
