Hello to everyone! I am an engineering geologist and I intent to apply to geological engineering schools for graduate studies, mainly to Missoury S&T, South Dakota school of mines,Uni of Idaho and maybe university of Alaska, fairbanks! My overall undergraduate GPA is not so good (2.88/4.00) and the GPA of my last two academic years is 2.98/4.00 since I had several extracurricular activities (needed to work during college) but I have enought research and work experience and 2 papers. Can anyone offer a piece of advice or does anyone know anything about these schools to help me?? Thank you very very much! :)

Google is your friend.

Mrmom62 I really thank you very much for your reply. I consider applying for graduate studies and I would like to know if there is someone who had the same problem with me or has enrolled to any of them and knows some information from inside since the outweigh of the GPA with other qualifications such as published papers is difficult to be answered. :)

MrMom, that information is for Missouri freshmen. The OP says he is interested in graduate school, and this IS the graduate school forum.

If you are interested in a PhD, you may need to get a master’s degree first, as a 2.88 is a bit low for PhD admissions.

If you are interested in an MS…well, apply and see what happens. Or you may need some years of work experience.

Juillet thank you very much for your reply. I am interested in a M.Sc degree. Yes, that’s what I thought but it seems that research and work experience do not count as much as I estimated after asking some graduate offices (they told me that everything counts but as I have seen for myself they do not count it as much as the GPA). The question is,do they count published papers as much as they do to GPA in order to outweigh a relatively low GPA or it’s a waste of time submitting applications?
