<p>So I’m planning to apply to five schools, but my top two choices are:
-Penn State University Park (Recently Applied)
-Suny University at Buffalo</p>
<p>GPA: 3.65 (Weighted)
Rank: 22 out of 286 (Top 10%)
SATs: 1380 (I know their low but I’m planning on retaking it next month and expecting a 1700)
Total APs and Honors: 16 Classes
AP Spanish: 5 out of 5</p>
<p>Extracurriculars:
- Marching Band (9th and 10th)
- Baseball (4 Years)
- FIRST Robotics Club (2 Years)</p>
<p>Community Service:
- Church Youth Group (16 Weeks)
- Baseball Little League Assistant</p>
<p>I heard that it helps my admission chances since I’m Latino (First Generation Immigrant) but I’m not completely sure, can anyone clear me up with that?</p>
<p>What are my chances for those two schools? I’m more worried about Penn State</p>
<p>Penn State says they do not discriminate against out of state admissions. However, most applicants are directed to attend a branch campus for 2 years, and then have an automatic right to transfer to the main campus. That is not necessarily bad - the branches offer quality education with small classes at a cheaper price vs. the main campus is known for large classes. You might also look at the Altoona campus which has dorms and is less than an hour from State College, so you can visit for activities.</p>
<p>I believe most larger public universities are very GPA and SAT driven in their admissions process. Therefore, my guess is that your odds for main campus are not currently high, but I would still apply. Penn State actually publishes a bubble diagram that illustrates their combined GPA and SAT expectations for main campus. </p>
<p>The next question is how much preference is given for under represented minorities.</p>
