Admission Chances?

<p>Hello Everyone, I just stumbled upon this site and decided to post after a while of reading. Glad to see so many people dedicated towards colleges so I guess Id throw in my stats too…
I’m applying to a monstrous 14 or so including Princeton, Stanford, UMich, Northwestern, ND, Yale, and Duke to name a couple…but most of the colleges are either in the top tier and there are a couple in the “middle tier” such as UMich and ND with one or so safeties…Just wanted to know my chances and since Im an upcoming senior i guess what little additions i could make…Any comments are greatly appreciated…</p>

<p>I dont want to sound cocky at all but can i almost count on admission to Northwestern, I’m trying to sort out my safeties and decent reach schools…Thanks!</p>

<p>Satmath - 800 (numerous times)
Satverbal - 730 (different date)
SatWriting - 710
Sat II MathIC - 800
SAT II Bio - 740 AP Bio - 5
SAT II Latin - 800 AP Latin - 5</p>

<p>GPA - 4.2
UW GPA - 3.92…our school has deflated gpas as i take every single honors and AP available…our school has a very limited course selection as it is a small private school…
no class rankings but i should have aobut teh 2nd highest GPA in my class of around 150.</p>

Lacrosse: 4 Year Winner - Only 1, Possible recruitment into ivys?.., All Star Team this past Summer, Team Captain which included arranging practices and meeting places, calling up everyone…i know not the greatest but i should mention I’m asian so hopefully this breaks the so called asian stereotype of no physical contact sports?</p>

<p>Piano - if that counts since im asian…12 years…various competitions, recitals, etc…couple certificates awards…etc.</p>

<p>Football: freshman year but not sure if I should add it…again the anti-asian thing though</p>

<p>NHS - no big deal but I was a mentor program co-coordinator and tutoring program co-coordinator…tutor kids myself</p>

<p>Debate Club: 10-12 - A part of founding group…membership has nearly tripled in 2 years…</p>

<p>Engineering Team, 10-12 - JETs compeition 4th Nationally, 1st State…hopefully I can be a captain next year - 2 year letter Winner</p>

<p>In the Know Team - 10-12 - 2 year Letter Winners</p>

<p>Interact Club - Service Club - only senior year</p>

<p>Chinese School - Diploma in 2005, entered speech contests, volunteered about 120 hours total at Summer Camps</p>

<p>Habitat for Humanity - 30+ Hours during one semester of School Junior Year</p>

<p>Interned/Worked later on for a small company who contracts for the Air Force…i plan on applying to engineering schools…</p>

<p>I’d say you have an almost guaranteed acceptance to NU.</p>

<p>Princeton and Stanford are good chances but you never know, sometimes its random. I got into all the schools I applied to except Stanford. I’m not sure where you live, but if you live on the west coast, it definately helps out your chances at Stanford.</p>

<p>Don’t bother with Duke for engineering, unless your looking to do Biomedical. I applied and got in, but their program is weak in comparison to NU’s (I’m going into MSE, and Duke doesn’t even have that as a major). I didn’t really research before I applied.</p>

<p>The only area where I see you as kind of weak, is service, though you do have work experience.</p>

<p>KRk did you just say that living on the west coast makes it easier to get into stanford? nuh uh, exactly the opposite is true, universities want a diverse student body from around the nation, stanford already has soo many california applicants because so many people grow up rooting for stanford sports, and seeing the campus, and want to stay close to home (a whole list of different reasons). Just like how every college i looked at in the midwest and east coast said that coming from Cali helped my chances there because we’re underrepresented (proportionally to our state population) on their campus.</p>

<p>They have to have a certain number of students from California.</p>

<p>Duke does the same thing. They are requried to have at least 25% i think from NC or SC. I doubt NC and SC make up 25% of their applications.</p>

<p>Don’t put anything about the “Interact Club” or football on your application because those contributions are insignificant. It is also debateable whether to put Habitat for Humanity down because 30 hours is not very much at all. However, if you can talk about the experience you had then it would be very advantageous.</p>
